A tilt rotor VTOL UAV in tri-copter configuration is developed. The vehicle is modeled using the blade element formulation for the propulsion system, and the aerodynamic properties are obtained from a 3D panel code. Linear quadratic regulators and linear quadratic tracking controllers are designed for the attitude control of the aircraft in vertical takeoff and hover flight conditions. The vehicle is built and hover flight tests are carried out. The results demonstrate the success of the modeling carried ou...
Modeling and control of a hyper redundant manipulator
Bayram, Atilla; Özgören, Mustafa Kemal; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2010)
The hyper redundant manipulators (HRMs) have excessively large degrees of freedom. As a special but practicable subset, the binary HRMs use binary (on-off) actuators with only two stable states such as pneumatic cylinders and solenoids. Such actuators are simple, cheap, and easy to control. Therefore, a binary HRM has been studied in this thesis. The thesis work covers the conceptual design of a spatial binary HRM together with its controlled motion simulations. The manipulator consists of many modules, eac...
Modeling and controller design of a VTOL air vehicle
Önen, Anıl Sami; Tekinalp, Ozan; Kurtuluş, Dilek Funda; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2015)
This thesis focuses on modeling, controller design, production and flight test of a VTOL unmanned air vehicle. The air vehicle that is designed and manufactured for this study has three propellers. A nonlinear mathematical model of the aircraft is developed. For this both numerical codes as well as wind tunnel tests have been carried out. A simulation code is then written in MATLAB/Simulink environment that describes the physical properties of the system in detail. After trimming the air vehicle at appropri...
Modeling and control of a heavy-lift helicopter consisting of large and small tilting rotors
Ozdogan, Gokhan; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal (2018-10-01)
In this study, we have proposed an unconventional UAV design. We aimed heavy lifting in an efficient way, without using complicated swashplate mechanism. Helicopter consist of two large propellers to carry the main payload, two small propellers to stabilize the roll attitude, and two servo motors to control the yaw axis. Large propellers will be more efficient than the small propellers owing to their greater disk area. For this reason, main lifting will be achieved by two large propellers. Conventional quad...
Modeling and control of high temperature oven for low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) device manufacturing
Yücel, Ayşe Tuğçe; Kıncal, Serkan; Department of Chemical Engineering (2012)
In the electronics the quality, reliability, operational speed, device density and cost of circuits are fundamentally determined by carriers. If it is necessary to use better material than plastic carrier, it has to be made of ceramics or glass-ceramics. This study dealt with the ceramic based carrier production system. The types of the raw ceramics fired at low temperature (below 1000°C) are called Low Temperature Co-Fired Ceramics (LTCC). In this study, a comprehensive thermal model is described for the h...
