Final results of V̄e - e scattering cross-section measurements and constraints on new physics
Deniz, Muhammed; Bilmiş, Selçuk; Wong, Henry T (2012-01-01)
The (nu) over bar (e) - e elastic scattering cross-section was measured with a CsI(Tl) scintillating crystal detector array with a total mass of 187 kg at the Kuo-Sheng Nuclear Power Station. The detectors were exposed to a reactor (nu) over bar (e) flux of 6.4 x 10(12) cm(-2)s(-1) originated from a core with 2.9 GW thermal power. Using 29882/7369 kg-days of Reactor ON/OFF data, the Standard Model (SM) of electroweak interaction was probed at the 4-momentum transfer range of Q(2) similar to 3 x 10(-6) GeV2....
Wave propagation in fractured porous media saturated by two immiscible fluids
Corapcioglu, MY; Tuncay, Kağan (1998-01-01)
A study of wave propagation in fractured porous media saturated by two immiscible fluids is presented, based on the double-porosity concept. The macroscopic constitutive relations and mass and momentum balance equations are obtained by volume averaging the microscale balance and constitutive equations, and assuming small deformations. Momentum transfer terms are expressed in terms of intrinsic and relative permeabilities assuming the validity of Darcy's law in fractured porous media. In the simplest case, t...
Optimization of FRET method to detect dimerization of dopamine D2 and adenosine A2A receptors in live cells
Ünlü, Gökhan; Son, Çağdaş Devrim; Department of Biology (2011)
Recent studies demonstrate that there are several G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) that dimerize with other GPCRs and form heterodimers. Adenosine A2A-Dopamine D2 receptor interaction is one of the examples for GPCR heterodimerization. Both receptors bear critical roles in physiological processes. Adenosine A2A receptor has functions in neurotransmission, cardiovascular system and immune response. On the other hand, dopamine receptors are the key point of dopaminergic system, which controls the regulatio...
Analysis of stress in the elastic state in a solid cylinder subjected to periodic boundary condition
Yedekçi, Buşra; Eraslan, Ahmet Nedim; Department of Engineering Sciences (2015)
An analytical model is developed to investigate the thermoelastic response of a solid cylinder subjected to periodic boundary condition. Time dependent periodic boundary condition for the solid cylinder is treated by the help of Duhamel's theorem. The corresponding thermoelastic equation is obtained in terms of radial displacement by using basic equations of elasticity under generalized plane strain presupposition. Analytical solution of the thermoelastic equation is obtained to determine the distributions ...
Analysis of stress in a solid cylinder with periodic heat generation
Varlı, Ekin; Eraslan, Ahmet Nedim; Department of Engineering Sciences (2015)
Thermoelastic stress response of a periodic heat generating solid cylinder is investigated by analytical means. The cylinder is initially at zero temperature. For times greater than zero, heat is generated internally and slowly at a time dependent rate. Two periodic heat generation rates are used. The temperature distribution in the solid cylinder corresponding to each generation rate is obtained by making use of Duhamel’s theorem. An uncoupled thermoelastic solution of the solid cylinder is then obtained u...
