Experimental Investigation of Effusion and Film Cooling for Gas Turbine Combustor
İnanlı, Sinan; Yasa, Tolga; Ulaş, Abdullah (2016-07-12)
Experimental study was conducted to understand the heat transfer characteristics of film or effusion cooled test plates that represent the gas turbine combustor liner. Two effusion cooling test plates having different hole angles (30 and 75° with horizontal) were used. Film cooling tests were conducted by six different slot geometries. Test geometries were the scaled-up model of real combustor liner. Three different blowing ratios were applied for each test plate geometry. Surface cooling effectiveness was ...
Experimental investigation of boundary layer separation control using steady vortex generator jets on low pressure turbines
Doğan, Eda; Uzol, Oğuz; Kurtuluş, Dilek Funda; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2012)
This thesis presents the results of an experimental study that investigates the effects of steady vortex generator jets (VGJs) integrated to a low pressure turbine blade to control the laminar separation bubble occurring on the suction surface of the blade at low Reynolds numbers. The injection technique involves jets issued from the holes located near the suction peak of the test blade which is in the middle of a five-blade low speed linear cascade facility. Three injection cases are tested with different ...
Experimental investigation of phase change materials used in prototype military shelters
Erkal, Zafer; Tarı, İlker; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2011)
In this thesis, the possible usage of phase change materials in military shelters with the aim of decreasing the heating effect of the solar radiation is presented. In order to meet the rapidly growing demand for energy in military applications, a passive cooling technique, specifically, storing thermal energy with phase change materials is analyzed by using experimental approach. Not only different types of phase change materials but also different amounts of them are examined during the solar loading expe...
EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF HEAT TRANSFER AND PRESSURE DROP FOR TWO-PHASE R134A FLOW IN A 1.65 MM COPPER TUBE
Tekin, Bilgehan; Güvenç Yazıcıoğlu, Almıla; Kerpicci, Husnu; Kakac, Sadik (2010-07-24)
Heat transfer in small scale media is a phenomenon that has been increasingly scrutinized in the past few decades. Refrigerant flow in microscale tubes and channels is a promising solution to be used in future refrigeration technology. Experimental studies are significant for the rating of the heat transfer and pressure drop in a given channel, and are important tools for optimizing applicable designs. An overview of the previous studies in this area has shown that most of the research does not focus on the...
Experimental investigation of pressurized concrete tunnel linings
Kalaycıoğlu, Münci Tunç; Canbay, Erdem; Department of Civil Engineering (2019)
Behaviour of pressurized tunnels are determined by the mechanical and geometrical properties of lining, mechanical properties and overburden pressure, and the quality of contact zone between rock and lining. These factors form the backbone of the designprocessoftunnelswithinternalpressure. Estimatingcrackwidthsanddamage patternsischallengingdueto thenonlinearinteractionofnaturalandartificiallayers.
