Sensitivity analysis for piezoelectric energy harvester and bluff body design toward underwater pipeline monitoring
Qureshi , Fassahat Ullah Qureshi; Muhtaroglu, Ali; Tuncay, Kağan (2017-01-01)
Monitoring of underwater pipelines through wireless sensor nodes (WSNs) is an important area of research especially for locations such as underground or underwater pipelines, where it is costly to replace batteries. In this study, a finite element sensitivity and comparative analysis for piezoelectric (PZT) energy harvester operating in a fluid flow is done to power underwater in-pipe WSNs. Two types of bluff bodies D and I-shaped are used for comparison. Finite element simulations results show that PZT ene...

ASELSAN Inc. has been working on electromagnetic launch technologies since 2014. The first prototype, EMFY-1, has a 25 mm x 25 mm square bore and 3-m-length rails. The second prototype, EMFY-2, has a 50 x 50 mm square bore and 3-m-length. This article presents a recently developed prototype, EMFY-3, with a 50 x 75 mm rectangular bore and 6-m length. The input energy of the pulsed-power supply (PPS) is doubled to 8 MJ, and the 2.91 MJ muzzle energy is obtained. Velocity curves are captured with Doppler radar...

Sensitivity Analysis of Distortion of Carburized Steel Shafts Using Computer Simulations
Yazır, Büşra; Evcil, Elif; Yıldız, Seçil; Davut, Kemal; Şimşir, Caner (null; 2016-12-01)
Carburizing and subsequent quenching heat treatments are commonly used industrial processes to improve the properties and performance of steel shafts. Undesired dimensional and shape changes (distortion) related to these treatments are still the most frequent reason for expensive and time consuming corrective operations, low performance during service and even product rejection. The major aim of this study is to identify the suitable control parameters for subsequent optimization of the carburized quenching...
Sensitivity analysis approach for reduced-order approximations of optimal control problems governed by Burgers equation
Akman, Tuğba (Wiley, 2016-12-01)
The reduced-order model of the optimal control problem governed by Burgers equation is derived using the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method. The reduced-order solution depending on parameters, which are different from the nominal values, may not be accurate if the POD basis functions depending on the nominal values are used to derive the reduced-order model. It is known that Burgers equation is sensitive to the perturbations in the diffusion term, so we use the sensitivity information to improve t...
