On a pilot-plant, an inclined fluted tube of 3-in in diameter was tested to determine the effect of tube orientation on the condensing heat transfer performance. These tests were made on fluted tubes with and without drainage discs. The drainage disc spacing was 5, 10, 15 and 20 cm, while the angle of inclination with vertical were 15, 30 and 45°. The Wilson-plot technique was utilized in the evaluation of experimental data. The results for the inclined tubes were compared with vertical orientation. Heat transfer performance of the inclined fluted tube with drainage discs is significantly greater than that of vertical one. However, the condensing coefficients for fluted tube without drainage discs are higher in vertical orientation compared to inclined one. Therefore, it is not recommended to use tubes without drainage discs in inclined orientation.

Effect of fiber and resin type on the axial and circumferencial tensile strength of fiber reinforced polyester pipe
Gökçe, Neslihan; Yılmazer, Ülkü; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2008)
In this study, the aim is to investigate the stiffness, longitudinal tensile strength and circumferential tensile strength of short fiber reinforced polyester composite pipes produced by centrifugal casting production method. To achieve this aim, theoretical calculation of modulus of elasticity of pipes was done and then test program was carried out on pipe samples produced with three different resin types which were orthophthalic, isophthalic and vinyl ester resin and three different fiber types which were...
Effect of resin and fiber on the abrasion, impact and pressure resistance of cylindrical composite structures
Kaya, Derya; Yılmazer, Ülkü; Department of Chemical Engineering (2011)
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of resin and fiber on the abrasion, impact and internal pressure resistances of fiber reinforced plastic composite pipes produced by continuous filament winding method. For this study, pipe samples were produced with different combinations of resin type, fiber type, fiber amount and fiber length. All the samples were tested in accordance with the related ISO (International Organization for Standardization), DIN (German Standardization Institution) and BSI...
Effect of Thickness-to-Chord Ratio on Flow Structure of a Low Swept Delta Wing
Gulsacan, Burak; Sencan, Gizem; Yavuz, Mehmet Metin (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), 2018-12-01)
The effect of thickness-to-chord (t/C) ratio on flow structure of a delta wing with sweep angle of 35 deg is characterized in a low-speed wind tunnel using laser-illuminated smoke visualization, particle image velocimetry, and surface pressure measurements. Four different t/C ratios varying from 4.75 to 19% are tested at angles of attack, 4, 6, 8, and 10 deg, for Reynolds numbers Re =1 x 10(4) and 3.5 x 10(4). The results indicate that the effect of thicknessto-chord ratio on flow structure is quite substan...
Effect of a heated solid body on mixed convection flow in an open cavity
Bozkaya, Canan (null; 2015-07-13)
The mixed convection flow and heat transfer characteristics inside a square ventilated cavity with a heat-generating solid circular body located at the center have been investigated numerically. The inlet opening is at the bottom of the left wall, while the outlet one is at the top of the right wall, and all the walls of the cavity are considered to be adiabatic. A Galerkin weighted residual finite element method is used to solve the governing equations of mass, momentum, and energy. The behavior of the flu...
EFFECT OF SURFACE ROUGHNESS IN PARALLEL-PLATE MICROCHANNELS ON HEAT TRANSFER
Turgay, M. B.; Güvenç Yazıcıoğlu, Almıla (Informa UK Limited, 2009-01-01)
In this study, the effect of surface roughness on convective heat transfer in two-dimensional parallel plate microchannels is analyzed numerically for steady-state, single-phase, developing, and laminar air flow in the slip flow regime. Slip velocity and temperature jump at wall boundaries are imposed to observe the rarefaction effect. The effect of triangular roughness elements on Nusselt number are compared to cases with smooth surfaces. The results indicate that increasing surface roughness reduces heat ...
