Effect of bacterial treatment on silver recovery from Artvin-Kafkasor ore
Ozdemir, Z; Ozbayoglu, G; Atalay, U; Özcengiz, Gülay; Alaeddinoglu, G (2000-10-18)
The enhancement of the extraction of silver from Artvin-Kafkasor ore have been studied by the application of bio-oxidation with Thiobacillus ferrooxidans. The effects of various parameters such as bacterial treatment duration, inoculum size and growth kinetics were investigated. The bacterial treatment of -208 mum size ore with Thiobacillus ferrooxidans before cyanidation resulted in silver recoveries of above 60% while direct cyanidation could only yield 40.36% silver recovery.
Effect of clay pretreatment on photofermentative hydrogen production from olive mill wastewater
Eroglu, Ela; Eroglu, Inci; Gündüz, Ufuk; Yuecel, Meral (2008-10-01)
The aim of this paper was to gain further insight into the effect of the clay pretreatment process oil photofermentative hydrogen production. This two-stage process involved a clay pretreatment step followed by photofermentation. which was performed under anaerobic conditions with the illumination by Tungsten lamps. Rhodobacter sphaeroUts O.U.001 was used for photofermentation. Higher amounts of color (65%), total phenol (81%) and chemical oxygen demand (3%) removal efficiencies were achieved after clay pre...
Effect of osmotic pretreatment and microwave frying on acrylamide formation in potato strips
Şahin, Serpil; Şümnü, Servet Gülüm; Öztop, Halil Mecit (Wiley, 2007-12-01)
BACKGROUND: The presence of acrylamide, a probable carcinogen, is currently a major concern relating to the consumption of fried products. Therefore, recent frying studies have focused on ways of reducing the acrylamide content. The main objective of the present study was to determine the effects of microwave frying and osmotic treatment prior to frying on acrylamide formation in potato strips.
Effect of brine composition on oil recovery by waterflooding
Bagci, S; Kök, Mustafa Verşan; Türksoy, Ulaş (2001-01-01)
In this study, the effect of brine composition on oil recovery by waterflooding was experimentally studied. Different compositions of brine were injected in to packed one-dimensional unconsolidated limestone with Garzan crude oil (26 degrees API) and distilled water. Ten different brine compositions, three brine mixtures are prepared and distilled water was used for injection throughout the study. The highest recovery 18.8% higher than distilled water injection) considering all the experiments was obtained ...
Effect of pH on erythropoietin production by recombinant Pichia pastoris in fed-batch operation
Soyaslan, Elif Şükran; Çalık, Pınar; Department of Chemical Engineering (2010)
In this study, the effects of pH on therapeutically important protein, recombinant human erythropoietin (rhuEPO), production by Pichia pastoris was investigated at pH=4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5 and 6.0. rHuEPO production was started by methanol induction in fed-batch mode. The highest cell concentration was obtained at pH=4.5 as 81.4 g L-1. The co-substrate substrate sorbitol, which was added batch-wise, was consumed at t=15 h of the operations at pH=4.0, 4.5 and 5.0. However as the pH increases above pH=5.0 the so...
