Optimising clarification of carrot juice by bacterial crude pectinase
Uzuner, Sibel; Çekmecelioğlu, Deniz (2015-12-01)
This study was undertaken to search for potential use of crude bacterial pectinase enzyme produced from Bacillus subtilis grown on hazelnut shell hydrolysate in clarification of carrot juice and to optimize the enzyme load, pH and time using the Box-Behnken response surface methodology (RSM). The carrot juice was treated with the crude pectinase enzyme (5.60 U mL(-1)) at different concentrations (0.1-0.5%), pH (4-7), and time (2-6 h). The obtained enzyme was also compared with commercial fungal pectinase at...
Anaerobic treatment of opium alkaloid wastewater and effect of gamma-rays on anaerobic treatment
Özdemir, Recep Tuğrul; Dilek, Filiz Bengü; Department of Environmental Engineering (2006)
In this study, anaerobic treatability of opium alkaloid wastewater and the effect of radiation pretreatment (gamma-rays) on anaerobic treatability were investigated. Biochemical Methane Potential (BMP) assay was performed with alkaloid wastewater having initial COD values of 2400, 6000 and 9600 mg/L with and without basal medium (BM). The highest anaerobic treatment efficiency of 77% was obtained in the BMP reactor containing alkaloid wastewater with initial COD of 9600 mg/L and BM. Co-substrate use was inv...
Amelioration of photofermentative hydrogen production from molasses dark fermenter effluent by zeolite-based removal of ammonium ion
Androga, Dominic Deo; Ozgur, Ebru; EROĞLU, İNCİ; Gündüz, Ufuk; Yucel, Meral (2012-11-01)
One of the challenges in the development of integrated dark and photofermentative biological hydrogen production systems is the presence of ammonium ions in dark fermentation effluent (DFE). Ammonium strongly inhibits the sequential photofermentation process, and so its removal is required for successful process integration. In this study, the removal of ammonium ions from molasses DFE using a natural zeolite (clinoptilolite) was investigated. The samples were treated with batch suspensions of Na-form clino...
Synergistic effects of biochar and processed fly ash on bioavailability, transformation and accumulation of heavy metals by maize (Zea mays L.) in coal-mining contaminated soil
Munir, Mehr Ahmed Mujtaba; Liu, Guijian; Yousaf, Balal; Ali, Muhammad Ubaid; Abbas, Qumber; Ullah, Habib (2020-02-01)
In the paper, hydrothermally (HT) treated, sulfuric acid (H2SO4), and hydrochloric acid (HCI) washed fly ashes (FA) were used to examine the applied effects with and without biochar (BC) on the bioavailability of heavy metals (HMs) and growth of maize (Zea mays L) plants in coal -mining contaminated soil. Addition of BC in combination with these processed fly ashes (PFA) significantly increased the soil pH, EC, and soil organic carbon (SOC). Individual application of BC and PFA increased the available conte...
