Modelling and performance analysis of linear fresnel collector for process heat generation for ice cream factory in Konya
Singh, Rahul; Baker, Derek Keıth; Tarı, İlker; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2017)
In this thesis, a linear Fresnel collector has been designed to supply solar heat for industrial process. Firstly, optical analysis using ray tracing is done to determine the effects of collector’s parameters, such as height of receiver, mirror width and profile, gap between adjacent rows and slope deviation. Afterwards, one-dimensional thermal model is presented which predicts surface temperatures of receiver components and heat loss. The results obtained from both optical and thermal studies are then benc...
Design and realization of a new concentrating photovoltaic solar energy module based on lossless horizontally staggered light guide
Selimoğlu, Özgür; Turan, Raşit; Department of Physics (2013)
Concentrating Photovoltaic systems are good candidates for low cost and clean electricity generation from solar energy. CPV means replacing much of the expensive semiconductor photovoltaic cells with the cheaper optics. Although the idea is simple, CPV systems have several problems inherent to their system design, such as module thickness, expensive PV cells and overheating. Light guide systems are good alternatives to classical CPV systems that can clear off most of the problems of those systems. In this t...
Thin film (6,5) semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotube metamaterial absorber for photovoltaic applications
Obaidullah, Madina; Esat, Volkan; Sabah, Cumali (2017-12-01)
A wide-band (6,5) single-walled carbon nanotube metamaterial absorber design with near unity absorption in the visible and ultraviolet frequency regions for solar cell applications is proposed. The frequency response of the proposed design provides wide-band with a maximum of 99.2% absorption. The proposed design is also simulated with (5,4), (6,4), (7,5), (9,4), and (10,3) chiralities, and results are compared to show that the proposed design works best with (6,5) carbon nanotube (CNT) but also good for ot...
Multiband Metamaterial Absorber Design Based on Plasmonic Resonances for Solar Energy Harvesting
Mulla, Batuhan; Sabah, Cumali (2016-10-01)
A new metamaterial absorber is designed and characterized numerically for the harvesting of solar energy. The design is composed of three layers in which the interaction among them gives rise to the plasmonic resonances. The main operation frequency range of the proposed structure is chosen to be the visible regime. However, the design is also analyzed for the infrared and ultraviolet regimes. In order to characterize the absorber, some parametric studies with respect to the dimensions of the structure are ...
Study Case of Solar Thermal and Photovoltaic Heat Pump System for Different Cities in Turkey
Moia-Pol, Andreu; Pujol-Nadal, Ramon; Martinez-Moll, Victor; Bonyadi, Nima; Baker, Derek (2016-10-14)
The combination of solar thermal, photovoltaic, and heat pump technologies is a welcome advancement in countries with large solar resources such as Turkey. These systems could have similar efficiencies throughout the year for different locations in Turkey if we adjust the solar storage according to the weather conditions. In this paper, solar heating with a heat pump system for buildings have been designed to achieve different values of the fraction of primary energy saved using Flat Plate Collectors (FPC) ...
