ORBITAL-PHASE-RESOLVED SPECTROSCOPY OF THE INTERMEDIATE POLAR FO AQR USING XMM-NEWTON OBSERVATORY DATA
Pekon, Y.; Balman, Şölen (IOP Publishing, 2012-08-01)
We present the orbital-phase-resolved analysis of an archival FO Aqr observation obtained using the X-ray Multi-Mirror Mission, European Photon Imaging Camera (pn instrument). We investigate the variation of the spin pulse amplitudes over the orbital period in order to account for the effects of orbital motion on spin modulation. The semi-amplitude variations are in phase with the orbital modulation, changing from (38.0 +/- 1.8)% at the orbital maximum to (13.3 +/- 3.7)% at the orbital minimum. The spectral...
Photometric and spectral analysis of the optical companion to sax j2103.5+4545
Özbilgen, Sinem; Kızıloğlu, Ümit; Department of Physics (2008)
In this study spectral and photometric data of the SAX J2103.5+4545 Be/X-ray system are given. The spectral data were taken from June 2007 to September 2008 with the 1.5 m Russian-Turkish telescope, whereas the photometric data were obtained using ROTSE-IIId archive from June 2004 to November 2008. The photometric data up to April 2007 shows that the system was in quiescence in the optical region. But, in the 23rd of April 2007, the system's luminosity underwent a large increase, which is in agreement with ...
Exciton simulations of the optical properties of several photosynthetic light-harvesting complexes
İşeri, Erkut İnan; Gülen, Demet; Department of Physics (2004)
The work presented in this thesis was aimed to investigate the structure-function relationship of several photosynthetic Light-Harvesting Complexes (LHCs) including Chlorophyll Protein 29 (CP29) and Light-Harvesting Complex II (LHCII) of green plants, and Fenna-Matthews-Olson (FMO) complex of green sulfur bacterium Chlorobium tepidum. Based on the exciton calculations, a model was proposed to the electronic excited states (EES) of both CP29 and LHCII complexes by incorporating a considerable part of the cur...
Pregalactic-primordial low-mass stars
Kızıloğlu, Nilgün Gülşan; Eryurt, Dilhan Ezer (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1987-8)
The Main-Sequence positions as well as the evolutionary behavior of Population III stars up to an evolution age of 2×1010 yr, taking this time as the age of the Universe, have been investigated in the mass range 0.2 and 0.8M ⊙. While Population III stars with masses greater than 0.3M ⊙ develop a radiative core during the approach to the Main Sequence, stars with masses smaller than 0.3M ⊙ reach the Main Sequence as a wholly convective stars. Population III stars with masses greater than 0.5M ⊙ show a bright...
BINARY CLUSTERS OBSERVED WITH XMM-NEWTON X-RAY OBSERVATORY
Beygu, B.; Hudaverdi, M.; Ercan, N. (2008-10-05)
Clusters of galaxies are thought to form by accretion of galaxies along the cosmic filaments, and merging of clusters formed earlier. Observations and hydrodynamic simulations show the strong effects of mergers on physical conditions of the Intra Cluster Medium (ICM). In this work, we investigate five relatively nearby Abell clusters; A3705 (z= 0.089), A2440 (z= 0.090), A2933 (z= 0.092), A3888 (z= 0.152) and A115 (z= 0.193). Temperature; and metal abundance map are created using wavelet. algorithms. Peculia...
