Many hydro power plants, both in small and large scales, are being constructed in Turkey. The total potential of these projects reach to 216 billion kWh of feasible energy. However a method was not yet developed for the design of hydraulic machinery equipment in Turkey.

Properties of Ground Perlite Geopolymer Mortars
Erdoğan, Sinan Turhan (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2015-07-01)
Perlite is a volcanic aluminosilicate abundant in several countries that are major producers of portland cement. The amorphous nature and silica-to-alumina ratio of ground perlite indicate that it can be activated with alkaline solutions. This study presents the strength development of mixtures containing only ground perlite as their powder binder, activated with sodium hydroxide and/or sodium silicate solutions, at room temperature or using oven curing. The structure of the formed geopolymers is investigat...
An electronic control unit design for a miniature jet engine
Polat, Cuma; Dölen, Melik; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2010)
Gas turbines are widely used as power sources in many industrial and transportation applications. This kind of engine is the most preferred prime movers in aircrafts, power plants and some marine vehicles. They have different configurations according to their mechanical constructions such as turbo-prop, turbo-shaft, turbojet, etc. These engines have different efficiencies and specifications and some advantages and disadvantages compared to Otto-Cycle engines. In this thesis, a small turbojet engine is inves...
Experimental and computational investigation of the emergency coolant injection effect in a candu inlet header
Turhan, K. Zafer; Yeşin, Ahmet Orhan; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2009)
Inlet headers in the primary heat transport system(PHTS) of CANDU type reactors, are used to collect the coolant coming from the steam generators and distribute them into the reactor core via several feeders. During a postulated loss of coolant accident (LOCA), depressurization and vapor supplement into the core may occur, which results a deterioration in the heat transfer from fuel to the coolant. When a depressurization occurs, “Emergency Coolant Injection(ECI)” system in the PHTS in CANDU reactors, is au...
Hydrodynamic Modeling of Dam-Reservoir Response during Earthquakes
Aydın, İsmail (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2011-08-03)
A computational model is developed to analyze the hydrodynamic behavior of dam reservoirs during earthquakes. The mathematical model is based on the solution of two-dimensional (2D) Navier-Stokes equations in a vertical, semi-infinite domain truncated by a far-end boundary condition. A depth integrated continuity equation is used to track the deforming free-surface and ensure global mass conservation. A combination of Sommerfeld nonreflecting boundary and dissipation zone methods is implemented at the far e...
Functional analysis of a mirna putatively involved in powdery mildew disease susceptibility in barley
Dağdaş, Gülay; Akkaya, Mahinur S.; Department of Biotechnology (2009)
Barley is one of the most important crop species in Turkey and powdery mildew is one of the most common pathogen decreasing yield in barley. For this problem, agricultural biologists apply breeding technologies in order to select and propagate resistant barley cultivars. However, this is not a permanent solution since pathogens evolve rapidly to overcome plant resistance mechanisms. On the other hand, molecular plant pathologists are trying to understand basic mechanisms underlying plant-pathogen interactio...
