In this study, a composite media formed by the combination of a metallic resonator and a dielectric material is mathematically analyzed by means of its effective magnetic and electric response. It is demonstrated that a resonator, in the form of a ring with a wire strip, embedded in SiO2 exhibits artificial magnetic and electric effects. Once the dimensions of the resonator are smaller than the excitation wavelength, the overall response becomes artificially homogeneous. The negative magnetic resonance is coincided with the broadband negative electric response to obtain negative-index material (NIM) whose effective refractive index is negative. The transmission characteristics of the complex medium are verified to be multiband for the whole infrared (IR) range where double-negative (DN-NIM) and single-negative (SN-NIM) features observed via particular simulations.

Noncontact lateral-force gradient measurement on Si(111)-7 x 7 surface with small-amplitude off-resonance atomic force microscopy
Atabak, Mehrdad; Unverdi, Ozhan; Özer, Hakkı Tunçay; Oral, Ahmet (2009-03-01)
In this work, the authors report on a quantitative investigation of lateral-force gradient and lateral force between a tungsten tip and Si(111)-(7 x 7) surface using combined noncontact lateral-force microscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy. Simultaneous lateral-force gradient and scanning tunneling microscopy images of single and multiatomic step are obtained. In our measurement, tunnel current is used as feedback. The lateral-stiffness contrast has been observed to be 2.5 N/m at a single atomic step, ...
Radial basis function and dual reciprocity boundary element solutions of fluid dynamics problems
Gürbüz, Merve; Tezer Sezgin, Münevver; Department of Mathematics (2017)
In this thesis, the two-dimensional, laminar steady or unsteady flow of a viscous, incompressible, electrically conducting fluid is considered in channels of several geometries under the impact of a uniform magnetic field with different orientations. Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow governed by the hydrodynamic and electromagnetic equations is solved numerically with or without Stokes approximation and with or without magnetic induction due to the large or small values of Reynolds and magnetic Reynolds number...
Elliptical pin fins as an alternative to circular pin fins for gas turbine blade cooling applications part 1 endwall heat transfer and total pressure loss characteristics
Uzol, Oğuz (null; 2001-06-07)
Detailed experimental investigation of the wall heat transfer enhancement and total pressure loss characteristics for two alternative elliptical pin fin arrays is conducted and the results are compared to the conventional circular pin fin arrays. Two different elliptical pin fin geometries with different major axis lengths are tested, both having a minor axis length equal to the circular fin diameter and positioned at zero degrees angle of attack to the free stream flow. The major axis lengths for the two e...
Relativistic and nonrelativistic bound states of the isotonic oscillator by Nikiforov-Uvarov method
IKHDAİR, SAMEER; Sever, Ramazan (2011-12-01)
A nonpolynomial one-dimensional quantum potential in the form of an isotonic oscillator (harmonic oscillator with a centripetal barrier) is studied. We provide the nonrelativistic bound state energy spectrum E(n) and the wave functions psi(n)(chi) in terms of the associated Laguerre polynomials in the framework of the Nikiforov-Uvarov method. Under the spin and pseudospin symmetric limits, the analytic eigenvalues and the corresponding two-component upper-and lower-spinors of the Dirac particle are obtained...
Asymmetric transmission of linearly polarized electromagnetic waves using chiral metamaterials with constant chirality over a certain frequency band
Akgöl, Oğuzhan; Dinçer, Furkan; Karaaslan, Muharrem; Ünal, Emin; Sabah, Cumali (World Scientific Pub Co Pte Lt, 2014-12-30)
In this study, a dynamic chiral metamaterial (MTM) structure leading to an asymmetric electromagnetic (EM) wave transmission for linear polarization is presented. The structure is composed of square-shaped resonator with gaps on both sides of a dielectric substrate with a certain degree of rotation. The dynamic structure is adjustable via various parameters to fit any desired frequency ranges. Theoretical and experimental analysis of the proposed structure are conducted and given in detail. The suggested mo...
