Using the archival ROSAT PSPC observations, AB Dor is found to be variable in X-rays. The periodic variations are consistent with previously reported rotational period of 0(d).514. The average spectrum of AB Dor is best represented with two-temperature Raymond-Smith model with kT values of 0.19 +/- 0.07 and 1.17 +/- 0.02 keV. The quiescent luminosity of the system is found to be 4.36 +/- 0.6 x 10(30) ergs s(-1). A flare with a rise time of similar to 350 seconds is detected during which X-ray luminosity rises from 5.8 +/- 1.6 x 10(30) to 15.8 +/- 4.9 x 10(30) ergs s(-1). We conclude that AB Dor is very similar to the active components of RS CVn binaries and other active classes. In view of the wide separation from the binary companion Rst 137B, this activity must be intrinsic to the active star.

X-RAY VS HE-II LAMBDA-1640 A CORRELATION OF II-PEG
ESENDEMIR, A; ALEV, HM (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1992-11-01)
The He II lambda1640 angstrom emission feature on the IUE spectra of II Peg has been compared with the observed X-ray flux. The atmospheric activity level is determined by comparing the several diagnostic line intensities with the solar case.
Modifying the Standard Disk Model for the Ultraviolet Spectral Analysis of Disk-dominated Cataclysmic Variables. I. The Novalikes MV Lyrae, BZ Camelopardalis, and V592 Cassiopeiae
Godon, Patrick; Sion, Edward M.; Balman, Şölen; Blair, William P. (American Astronomical Society, 2017-09-01)
The standard disk is often inadequate to model disk-dominated cataclysmic variables (CVs) and generates a spectrum that is bluer than the observed UV spectra. X-ray observations of these systems reveal an optically thin boundary layer (BL) expected to appear as an inner hole in the disk. Consequently, we truncate the inner disk. However, instead of removing the inner disk, we impose the no-shear boundary condition at the truncation radius, thereby lowering the disk temperature and generating a spectrum that...
Optical observations of the Be/X-ray transient system KS 1947+300
Kiziloglu, U.; Baykal, Altan; Kiziloglu, N. (Wiley, 2007-01-01)
ROTSE-IIId observations of the Be/X-ray transient system KS 1947+300 obtained between September 2004 and December 2005 make it possible to study the correlation between optical and X-ray activity. The optical outburst of 0.1 mag was accompanied by an increase of the X-ray flux in the 2004 observations. A strong correlation between the optical and X-ray light curves suggests that the neutron star directly accretes from the outflowing material of the Be star. The nearly zero time lag between X-ray and optical...
VERITAS OBSERVATIONS OF THE BL LAC OBJECT 1ES 1218+304
Acciari, V. A.; et. al. (IOP Publishing, 2009-04-20)
The VERITAS collaboration reports the detection of very-high-energy gamma-ray emission from the high-frequency-peaked BL Lac object 1ES 1218+304 located at a redshift of z = 0.182. A gamma-ray signal was detected with a statistical significance of 10.4 standard deviations (10.4 sigma) for the observations taken during the first three months of 2007, confirming the discovery of this object made by the MAGIC collaboration. The photon spectrum between similar to 160 GeV and similar to 1.8 TeV is well described...
X-ray outburst of 4U 0115+634 and ROTSE observations of its optical counterpart V635 Cas
Baykal, Altan; Kiziloglu, N; Balman, S; Inam, SC (EDP Sciences, 2005-09-01)
ROTSE IIId ( The Robotic Optical Transient Experiment) observations of the X-ray binary system 4U 0115+634/V635 Cas obtained during 2004 June and 2005 January make it possible, for the first time, to study the correlation between optical and type II X-ray outbursts. The X-ray outburst sharply enhanced after periastron passage where the optical brightness was reduced by 0.3 mag for a few days. We interpret the sharp reduction of optical brightness as a sign of mass ejection from the outer parts of the disc o...
