Xylanase production by mixed culture submerged fermentation
Ören, Gözde; Çekmecelioğlu, Deniz; Department of Food Engineering (2014)
The growing interest in enzyme production by the usage of microorganisms continues for easier process control and sustainably higher amount of enzyme production. Food and agricultural industry, which produces large amounts of waste materials, is an excellent resource for enzyme manufacture. Among all, xylanase is considered to have 25 % shares in conjunction with pectinolytic enzymes within food enzyme production and extensively used in extraction/clarification of juices and wines, improvement of bread-qual...
Xylanase and itaconic acid production by Aspergillus terreus NRRL 1960 within a biorefinery concept
Kocabas, Aytac; Ögel, Zümrüt Begüm; Bakir, Ufuk (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2014-03-01)
Production of two industrially important products, xylanase and itaconic acid (IA), by Aspergillus terreus NRRL 1960 from agricultural residues was investigated within a biorefinery concept. Biological pretreatment was applied to lignocellulosic materials by using A. terreus, which produced xylanase while growing on agricultural residues. For IA production, already grown cells were transferred into a new medium. The first step provided not only the pretreatment of lignocellulosic material in order to be use...
Xylan-based biodegradable and wheat gluten-based antimicrobial film production
Karamanlıoğlu, Mehlika; Bakır, Ufuk; Department of Biotechnology (2008)
In the first part of the study, birchwood xylan-lignin film formation was studied. After film forming effect of lignin on pure birchwood xylan was demonstrated, the minimum lignin concentration necessary to form films was determined as 1.1% (lignin/xylan). So, it was determined that keeping about one percent lignin in xylan (w/w) was sufficient for film formation. Biodegradability of the lignin-birchwood xylan composite films was investigated enzymatically using 0.21 U / ml xylanase in an accelerated test. ...
Xylooligosaccharide production from cotton and sunflower stalks
Ak, Özlem; Bakır, Ufuk; Department of Biotechnology (2008)
In this study, the aim was enzymatic xylooligosaccharide production from cotton and sunflower stalks, two of main agricultural residues in Turkey. In first two parts of the study, alkali extracted xylan from both of the stalks was hydrolyzed by commercial xylanases Veron and Shearzyme. The effect of temperature, pH, enzyme and substrate concentrations were investigated to determine optimum enzymatic hydrolysis conditions of xylan. Sunflower and cotton stalk xylans were hydrolyzed by Shearzyme more efficient...
Xanthene dyes for cancer imaging and treatment: A material odyssey
Karaman, Osman; Alkan, Gizem Atakan; Kizilenis, Caglayan; Akgul, Cevahir Ceren; Gunbas, Gorkem (2023-01-01)
Cancer is still among the leading health issues today, considering the cost, effectiveness, complexity ofdetection/treatment modalities and survival rates. One of the most important criteria for higher survivalrates is the early and sensitive diagnosis of the disease that can direct the treatment modalities effec-tively. Florescence imaging agents emerged as an important alternative due to the current state of theart due to their spatial and temporal resolution, high sensitivity and selectivity, ease of mod...
