In this work, the concept of mass-energy equivalence in left-handed metamaterials is discussed by following Einstein's box thought experiment. Left-handed metamaterials are artificial composite structures that exhibit unusual properties, especially negative refractive index, in which phase and group velocities are directed oppositely. Equation E=mc(2) assumes that, in vacuum, the propagation of an electromagnetic radiation from emitter to receiver is accompanied by the transfer of mass. It was hypothesized previously that if the space between emitter and receiver is medium with a negative refractive index, then radiation transfers the mass not from the emitter to receiver as expected, but rather from the receiver to the emitter due to the opposite directions of phase and group velocities. In this paper, it is shown that even though one radiating atom is taken, the negative mass transferring must be in force. In particular, it means that, if the atom radiates a photon in a medium with negative refractive index, photon transfers the mass not from the atom, but to the atom.

Some set-theoretical traces in Leibniz's works
Ertemiz, Nusret; Grünberg, David; Department of Philosophy (2010)
The purpose of this dissertation is to search the primitives of Axiomatic Set Theory in Leibnizian Philolosophy, nourishing, roughly, from Platonic idea of universal-particular distinction, Aristotelian syllogistic propositions of Organon-Categoria and Euclidean Methodology in Elements. The main focus of the dissertation intends to examine the analyticity of Leibnizian Metaphysics and the anologies between the subject-predicate relation in The Philosophy of Leibniz and Axiomatic Method in general and Set Th...
Different approaches to the Einstein energy associated with the de Sitter C-space-time
Salti, M (2005-12-01)
The paper is purposed to elaborate the problem of gravitational energy localization in de Sitter(dS) C-space-time (the C space-time in a background with a cosmological constant Lambda). In this connection, using the energy-momentum definition of Einstein, we find the same energy in both general relativity and tele-parallel gravity.
Minimal extension of Einstein’s gravity at the quartic order
Kenar, Esin; Tekin, Bayram; Department of Physics (2018)
We study an extension of Einstein general relativity theory at the quartic order in the curvature. The extended theory has a unique vacuum and a single massless spin-2 excitation about this vacuum, just like general relativity, hence it is called a minimal extension. The extended theory can also be obtained from a particular form of Born-Infeld gravity. We show that the Schwarzschild and Kerr black holes are not exact solutions and the Kretschmann scalar obeys a non-linear wave equation, suggesting that bla...

Some splitting theorems for stably causal spacetime
