Development of Inorganic Silicone Polymers from Silica Fume
Erdoğan, Sinan Turhan; Tokyay, Mustafa (2012-10-05)
Geopolymers, inorganic materials with polymer-like repeating units containing silicon, aluminum, and oxygen, in 1-, 2-, or 3-dimensions, have been gaining popularity. While most research has focused on rigid, higher- strength geopolymers with mechanical properties similar to those of Portland cement concrete, there also exists a silicon-rich class of geopolymers which is more polymer-like, with lower strength and stiffness, and greater strain capacity but still having thermal resistance much superior to tra...
Development of backscattered laser-induced spectrofluorometer and measurement of phytoplanktons in-situ

Development of biodegradable gluten based films and characterization of their mechanical and gas permeability properties
Kayserilioglu, Betül Şefika; Akkaş, Nuri; Bakır, Ufuk; Department of Engineering Sciences (2002)
The correlation between film forming procedures and selected physical properties of wheat gluten films by different characterization methods was examined. Firstly, film forming solutions were prepared at different pH's (4, 6, and 1 1) in the presence or absence of ethanol and dried at room condition. The films prepared at pH 1 1 were significantly stronger than the films prepared at pH 4 and 6. With increasing Cma, the strain at break (&b) was moderately reduced. No significant variations were observed amon...
Development of acetylcholinesterase biosensor for the detection of pesticides
Kavruk, Murat; Öktem, Hüseyin Avni; Eyidoğan, Füsun İnci; Department of Biotechnology (2010)
Pesticides are natural or artificial molecules aimed to kill, or mitigate any harmful organism. Although their use in agriculture provides us with an increased crop yield, remains of chemicals on the products creates health concerns in society. Organophosphates and carbamates are two groups of insecticides. Although they are far more lethal against insects and small animals, they can also cause poisoning in humans through the inhibition of acetylcholinesterase enzyme (AChE) that plays an important role in h...
