Solar Electricity

This issue of physica status solidi (c) compiles the Proceedings of the 3rd Turkish Solar Electricity Conference and Exhibition (SolarTR‐3) that was held in Ankara, the capital city of Turkey, between April 27 and 29, 2015. Invited speakers, innovative companies and decision makers (politicians, government officials) experts in different types and various aspects of photovoltaics (PV) technology participated in this event. As the organization committee we were able to create a platform for interaction between private companies, university researchers and government officials for further R&D and production of PV in Turkey during this event. This year, we have organized the 3rd SolarTR after the two successful previous events, Solar‐TR1 in 2009 and Solar‐TR2 2012, more special and international by bringing researchers and private sector community from Turkey, Europe, USA and Middle Eastern Countries together. Proof of the vitality of the Solar‐TR series was given by the participation of 420 people with diverse backgrounds in photovoltaic technology; more than two hundreds out of them were PhD students or young scientists. The participants have presented 15 invited talks, 40 oral contributions and more than 105 visual presentations. The conference included also 2 plenary and 9 parallel sessions, and 2 tutorial sessions aimed at illustrating the basic photovoltaic energy technology and energy conversion to a broader community. All the published full papers in this issue were reviewed by a number of expert scientists in the field of photovoltaics to assure the high quality and diversity of this special issue. We thank both International and National Scientific Committees for their valuable contributions and wise suggestions. We also warmly thank the local Organizing Committee that had helped us tremendously. Finally, we would like to thank all sponsors of the SolarTR‐3 conference and exhibition.

The observation of the Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi Lambda phi decay is reported using proton-proton collision data collected at root s = 13TeV by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 60fb(-1). The ratio of the branching fractions B(Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi Lambda phi)/B(Lambda(0)(b) > psi(2S)Lambda) is measured to be (8.26 +/- 0.90 (stat) +/- 0.68 (syst) +/- 0.11 (B)) x 10(-2), where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the last uncertaint...
A new and stereospecific synthesis of an inositol analogue: bis-homoinositol

The photooxygenation of trans-8-(acetyloxy)bicyclo[4.2.0]octa-2,4-dien-7-yl acetate afforded the bicyclic endoperoxide. Reduction of the endoperoxide with thiourea followed by acetylation gave the corresponding tetraacetate. The KMnO4 oxidation of the tetraacetate followed by acetylation gave dihydroxytetraacetate Ammonolysis of tetraacetate afforded the bis-homoinositol, bicyclo[4.2.0]octane-2,3,4,5,7,8-hexol.

Calculation of the dielectric constant as a function of temperature near the smectic AC* phase transition in ferroelectric liquid crystals

We calculate here. the dielectric constant E as a function of temperature for the AC* phase transition of a ferroelectric liquid crystal using a mean field model. Using the values of the polarization P and the tilt angle theta, calculated from the mean field model with the P-2 theta(2) coupling for 4-(3-methyl-2-chlorobutanoyloxy)-4'-heptyloxybiphenyl, the dielectric constant E is calculated in the smectic C* phase of this ferroelectric liquid crystal at various temperatures at constant electric fields.

The photooxygenation of 4a,8b-dihydrobiphenylene affords an endoperoxide. NEt3-catalyzed rearrangement of this endoperoxide gave the corresponding hydroxy enone, while the CoTPP-catalyzed rearrangement afforded a bisepoxide. MnO2 oxidation of hydroxy enol leads to 4a,8b-dihydrobiphenylene-1,4-dione. The NIBS bromination of this dione produces mono- and dibromides.
