Competition between electronic Kerr and free-carrier effects in an ultimate-fast optically switched semiconductor microcavity
Yüce, Emre; CLAUDON, Julien; DUPUY, Emmanuel; Boller, Klaus J.; GÉRARD, Jean-Michel; Vos, Willem L. (2012-09-01)
We have performed ultra fast pump-probe experiments on a GaAs-AlAs microcavity with a resonance near 1300 nm in the "Original" telecom band. We concentrate on ultimate-fast optical switching of the cavity resonance that is measured as a function of pump-pulse energy. We observe that, at low pump-pulse energies, the switching of the cavity resonance is governed by the instantaneous electronic Kerr effect and is achieved within 300 fs. At high pump-pulse energies, the index change induced by free carriers gen...
Competition of manufacturers for retailer shelf space
Diler, Betül; Karaer, Özgen; Bakal, İsmail Serdar; Department of Industrial Engineering (2016)
In this thesis, we consider two partially substitutable products sold through a twoechelon supply chain, consisting of two suppliers and one retailer. We assume a random aggregate demand that is split between the two products, so the products have separated random demand as long as both are available. In case of a stockout in one of the products, that product’s demand can spill over to the competing product, which causes a correlation between the final demand of the products and their stocking quantities. T...
Relationship between styles of humor and divergent thinking
Cayirdag, Nur; Acar, Selcuk (2010-02-08)
The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between styles of humor and divergent thinking of Turkish 6(th), 7(th), and 8(th) grade students. Styles of humor were measured by Humor Style Questionnaire and divergent thinking was measured by Guilford's Uses Test. Two measurements were administered to 84 6(th), 7(th) and 8(th) grade students. Using bivariate correlations among 4 styles of humor, fluency, originality, and creativity, it was found that aggressive humor style was negatively c...

Comparison of 3D Versus 4D Path Planning for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
Cicibas, Halil; Demir, Kadir Alpaslan; ARICA, NAFİZ (2016-11-01)
This research compares 3D versus 4D (three spatial dimensions and the time dimension) multi-objective and multi-criteria path-planning for unmanned aerial vehicles in complex dynamic environments. In this study, we empirically analyse the performances of 3D and 4D path planning approaches. Using the empirical data, we show that the 4D approach is superior over the 3D approach especially in complex dynamic environments. The research model consisting of flight objectives and criteria is developed based on int...
