Review: The self-assembly of semiconductor quantum dots or wires within the cavity of a zeolite or molecular-sieve host to form quantum supralattices has great potential in the development and study of organized systems with value in, for example, quantum electronics, nonlinear optics, optical data storage, and chemoselective sensing. The organization of inorganic, organometallic, and metal-carbonyl moieties on the internal surfaces of the hosts (e.g. see figure) is the basis of the work and the chemistry and its applications are reviewed.

The role of amorphous precursor in phase selection hierarchy in marginal metallic glasses
YILDIRIM, CİHAN; KUTSAL, M.; OTT, R. T.; BESSER, M. F.; KRAMER, M. J.; Kalay, Yunus Eren (Elsevier BV, 2016-12-15)
The solid state amorphous structure and devitrification products of Al90Tb10 alloys produced by Cu block meltspinning and magnetron sputtering were investigated by a combined study of differential scanning calorimetry, in-situ X-ray diffraction and conventional transmission electron microscopy. The as-prepared specimens were found to be fully amorphous according to the electron and X-ray diffraction. The thermal analysis and in-situ XRD analyses of the amorphous samples having the same chemistry but differe...
Structural, thermodynamical, and transport properties of undercooled binary Pd-Ni alloys
Kart, S. Ozdemir; Tomak, Mehmet; Uludogan, M.; Cagin, T. (Elsevier BV, 2006-11-05)
The solidification properties of Pd-Ni alloys are studied with constant-pressure, constant-temperature (TPN), and constant-volume, constant-temperature (TVN) molecular dynamics simulations based on quantum Sutton-Chen potential. Whether the system forms the glass structure or it transforms into ordered state is checked at various cooling rates ranging from 10 K/ps to 0.05 K/ps. The effect of concentration and cooling rates on the glass transition temperature is examined. The behavior of heat capacity at con...
Plastic deformation induced microstructure evolution through gradient enhanced crystal plasticity based on a non-convex Helmholtz energy
Klusemann, Benjamin; Yalçınkaya, Tuncay (Elsevier BV, 2013-09-01)
A gradient crystal plasticity model in the framework of continuum thermodynamics and rate variational formulation is presented for the description of plastic deformation patterning in a system with non-convex energetic hardening. The paper focuses on the extension of the 1D deformation patterning analysis of Yalcinkaya et al. (2011) to 2D for monotonic loading histories. Solution algorithm is based on the simultaneous solution of displacement and plastic slip fields, which have been considered as primary va...
Coherency strain effects on TEM images of composite precipitates in Al-Li-Zr alloys
Aydınol, Mehmet Kadri (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1996-09-15)
Anomalous superlattice dark-field images of composite precipitates consisting of a dark core surrounded by a bright shell in Al-2.52Li-0.15Zr alloys, has been investigated by many beam dynamical image simulations employing a scattering matrix approach. The coherency strain field in the shell of the precipitate, as well as in the matrix, has been calculated by use of relations derived, and these are incorporated into the image calculations to determine whether the unexpected images can be elucidated by the c...
Mechanical behaviour of Al2O3-ZrO2 minicomposite reinforced glass matrix optomechanical composite
Dericioğlu, Arcan Fehmi (Informa UK Limited, 2003-08-01)
To understand the effect of a 'mesh-structured reinforcement' on the optical and mechanical properties of optomechanical composites, a unidirectional Al2O3 fibre-ZrO2 matrix minicomposite reinforced glass matrix optomechanical composite has been fabricated. By regular alignment of the minicomposites in the glass matrix as part of the 'mesh structure' a high degree of optical transparency is obtained in the composite; this transparency is proportional to its 'optical window' regions. The mesh structured rein...
