A computer-based matchmaking method utilizing numerical representations of voice as well facial features to improve matchmaking capabilities, the voice features preferably including articulation quality measures, speed of speech measures, audio energy measures, fundamental frequency measures, and relative audio periods. Certain preferred embodiments include: plastic-surgery-unique anthropometric facial measures to enhance system effectiveness; use of both standard and non-standard facial points idenified by Gabor kernel-based filtering; and adapting to user preferences by adjusting system parameters based on user responses to potential matches.

Dynamic radio channel management in cellular mobile communication systems
Yilmaz, N; Ergul, R (2004-09-29)
We present a dynamic radio bandwidth management scheme for mobile communication systems to achieve a high level of QoS for both handoff calls and new calls, while at the same time to improve the utilization of wireless network resources. The simultaneous satisfaction of these two actually conflicting interests will be thanks to two major key features. First, due to the apriori information about handoff reservation requests that is provided by the mobile terminal. This information is based on the cell transi...
Simulation-based VoIP performance evaluation under different traffic and codec conditions
Ünlü, Berk; Schmidt, Şenan Ece; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2013)
One of today’s most popular multimedia applications that needs more investigation and optimization is Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Simulation tools are essential to test existing network technologies and develop new ones. They are effectively used for network analysis and solving design and optimization problems. The focus of this thesis is an extensive simulation study to evaluate the achieved Quality of Service (QoS) support by VoIP traffic under different network topologies, traffic profiles, cod...
Matrix quantization and mixed excitation based linear predictive speech coding at very low bit rates
Özaydın, Selma; Baykal, Buyurman (Elsevier BV, 2003-10)
A matrix quantization scheme and a very low bit rate vocoder is developed to obtain good quality speech for low capacity communication links. The new matrix quantization method operates at bit rates between 400 and 800 bps and using a 25 ms linear predictive coding (LPC) analysis frame, spectral distortion about 1 dB is achieved at 800 bps. Techniques for improving the performance at very low bit rate vocoding include quantization of residual line spectral frequency (LSF) vectors, multistage matrix quantiza...
ADAPTIVE CONTROL OF POWER AMPLIFIER LINEARIZATION TECHNIQUES BY USING HYBRID ANALOG AND DIGITAL APPROACHES
Abdulwahab, Bassam; Tayfun, Nesimoglu; Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2021-9)
Power Amplifiers (PA) are widely used in mobile communication systems, yet power amplifiers have a non-linear region which is the major problem in all communication and radar systems. Moreover, PAs show a low power efficiency when operating in their linear region and are highly non-linear when operating in their high-efficiency region. To overcome such issues, there are different methods to linearize PAs and other methods to enhance their power efficiency. These linearization methods are built to meet a cer...
Content-based audio management and retrieval system for news broadcasts
Doğan, Ebru; Yazıcı, Adnan; Department of Computer Engineering (2009)
The audio signals can provide rich semantic cues for analyzing multimedia content, so audio information has been recently used for content-based multimedia indexing and retrieval. Due to growing amount of audio data, demand for efficient retrieval techniques is increasing. In this thesis work, we propose a complete, scalable and extensible audio based content management and retrieval system for news broadcasts. The proposed system considers classification, segmentation, analysis and retrieval of an audio st...
