Earthquake damage detection using watershed segmentation and intensity-gradient orientation approaches
Sümer, Emre; Türker, Mustafa; Department of Geodetic and Geographical Information Technologies (2004)
Earthquake is one of the most destructive natural disasters on earth. Rapid and reliable post-quake damage assessment has an important role to reduce the drastic effects of an earthquake by setting the responsible agencies in motion. In this study, the collapsed buildings due to earthquake were detected from post-event aerial images. Two approaches were proposed to detect the collapsed buildings. These approaches were implemented in a selected urban area of Golcuk. The first approach was based on the analys...
The use of language with ulterşor motives in harold pinter's plays
Kocamaner, Hikmet; Norman, Ünal; Department of English Literature (2005)
This thesis analyzes how Harold Pinter̕s characters use language with ulterior motives: making their existence felt and acknowledged, concealing the truth, avoiding conflict or confrontation, and exerting dominance. In the dissertation, stylistics, which is the analysis of texts by means of linguistic phenomena, has been used as the method of analysis. Characters̕ use of language with ulterior motives has been illustrated with reference to a variety of Pinter̕s plays.
The use of memory in Harold Pinter's Landscape, Silence, Night, Old Times, and No Man's Land
Ayken, Edibe Serra; Norman, Ünal; Department of Foreign Language Education (2007)
Harold Pinter’s concern with memory and the verification of the past have been ever-present since his early writings. Although these themes have been explored by Pinter in his early works, they have become dominant in his interim plays, which have been named by critics as his memory plays. In these plays, the characters evoke the past to such an extent that the past virtually co-exists with and influences the present. The characters’ recollections of the past may be real, or they may be partially or even co...
