Wage Inequality Trends in Europe and the USA
Yağanoğlu, Nazmi Yükselen; Ercan, Hakan; Department of Economics (2007)
There was a well documented surge of wage inequality in the US that started from mid-70s and continued in 80s, slowing down by mid-90s, caused by increased dispersion both between and within groups of people with similar personal characteristics and skills. We analyze the US wage inequality in the more recent years to see if this trend continues. We apply the decomposition technique of Juhn, Murphy and Pierce (1993) and quantile regression to March Current Population Survey data of the US Bureau of Labor St...
Wage Inequality and Returns to Education in Turkey: A Quantile Regression Analysis
Tansel, Aysıt (2012-02-01)
This paper investigates the male wage inequality and its evolution over the 19942002 period in Turkey by estimating Mincerian wage equations using ordinary least squares and quantile regression techniques. Male wage inequality is high in Turkey. While it declined at the lower end of the wage distribution it increased at the top end of wage distribution. Education contributed to higher wage inequality through both within and between dimensions. The within-groups inequality increased and between-groups inequa...
Labor productivity modeling with neural networks
Rowings Jr., James E.; Sönmez, Rifat (1996-01-01)
Regression analysis has been the common tool used in construction productivity studies, but in recent years, neural networks have been a successful alternative to regression analysis for other problems similar to construction labor productivity modeling. However, the potential capabilities of neural networks for construction labor productivity modeling have not been examined. This paper discusses the development of multivariate productivity models for concrete pouring by regression analysis and neural netwo...

Labour markets, labour relations and the state: a comparative – historical analysis of Argentina and Turkey, 2001-2015
Bozkurt Güngen, Sümercan; Yalman, Osman Galip; Department of Political Science and Public Administration (2017)
Argentina and Turkey witnessed in 2001 the most devastating economic crises in their recent histories. The post-crisis restructuring processes in these two countries implied important differences in terms of labour policy agendas in particular and development strategies in general. This thesis provides a historically-grounded, comparative analysis of the two post-crisis trajectories from a labour-centred perspective. It critically evaluates various perspectives in labour studies and puts forward an alternat...
