Warning security units and fire departments about rubbery or fire as soon as possible is very important for people's life and property. It is essential that installing automatic warning system in buildings where there are no people or in events threating people's security. In this study automatic security system with microcontroller has been projected in order to be used it in emergency conditions. System achieves communication with signal in tone coded by means of central computer and sends voiced warning message to people.

Cfd simulation of fire and ventilation in the stations of underground transportation systems
Kayılı, Serkan; Eralp, O. Cahit; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2005)
The direct exposure to fire is not the most immediate threat to passengers̕ life in case of fire in an underground transportation system. Most of the casualties in fire are the results of smoke-inhalation. Numerical simulation of fire and smoke propagation provides a useful tool when assessing the consequence and deciding the best evacuation strategy in case of a train fire inside the underground transportation system. In a station fire the emergency ventilation system must be capable of removing the heat, ...
Mental health of Turkish civil engineers in the construction industry
Üstün, Dündar Can; Tokdemir, Onur Behzat; Department of Civil Engineering (2022-6-21)
The construction industry is notoriously dangerous regarding employees’ physical safety. Countermeasures have been developed in the past to prevent hazards. Although the construction industry is showing progress in workplace safety, an essential part of the health problem is often neglected; mental health. Few studies have been made in the past regarding the mental health of the workers. These studies are mostly done in developed countries. Turkey, as a developing country, is the subject location of this th...
Fire tests of cut and cover tunnel roof segments at positive moment region
Arsava, Kemal Sarp; Arsava, Kemal Sarp; Department of Civil Engineering (2011)
The most important issue during a tunnel fire is safety of human life. The tunnel fire structural research and investigations have gained more importance in the last decade but studies show variable results depending on the concrete quality and tunnel design fire. For instance, a certain type of concrete with high moisture content can tend to explode in the first 10-15 minutes of fire with rapid increase of heat release rate. A sudden collapse of the tunnel roof during the fire is unacceptable. Especially i...
An integrated system design for building inspection by autonomous UAVs
Küçüksubaşı, Fatih; Sorguç, Arzu; Department of Building Science in Architecture (2017)
Inspection of buildings throughout their lifecycle is vital in terms of human safety as the number of structures increases expeditiously. However, it is not easy to perform inspections for all cases. Physical reachability and complexity of the buildings are major problems along with the safety of inspectors during on-site operations. In this context, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) have recently shown great performance collecting visual data through autonomous exploration and mapping in building inspection. ...
Hazardous waste management system design for Turkey
Yılmaz, Özge; Yetiş, Ülkü; Yetiş Kara, Bahar; Department of Environmental Engineering (2011)
Hazardous waste management demands detailed planning due to the risks posed by hazardous wastes on public and environment and high investments required. This study aims to provide a framework that leads Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) in planning of hazardous waste facilities to be built. This framework considers the facility and transport cost along with impacts of hazardous waste management. The linear optimization models for several scenarios are developed in order to evaluate possible approa...
