High speed atomic force microscope allows imaging dynamic processes on the surfaces. We have developed a very high speed tip scanning atomic force microscope (HS-AFM). We designed the tip scanning system to overcome the sample size limits, with a beam tracking capability to follow the cantilever motion. A high resonance frequency flexure scanner developed which has 15m scan range in XY and 3m in Z axis. A novel FPGA based high speed scanning and data acquisition system was developed. The scanner is driven b...

Development of 100w portable fuel cell system working with sodium borohydride
Erkan, Serdar; Eroğlu, İnci; Department of Chemical Engineering (2011)
Fuel cells are electricity generators which convert chemical energy of hydrogen directly to electricity by means of electrochemical oxidation and reduction reactions. A single proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell can only generate electricity with a potential between 0.5V and 1V. The useful potential can be achieved by stacking cells in series to form a PEM fuel cell stack. There is a potential to utilize 100W class fuel cells. Fuelling is the major problem of the portable fuel cells. The aim of this th...
Development of a DSP-FPGA-based resolver-to-digital converter for stabilized gun platforms
Zengin, Yasin; Erkmen, İsmet; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2010)
Resolver, due to its reliability and durability, has been used for the aim of shaft position sensing of military rotary systems such as tank turrets and gun stabilization platforms for decades. Ready-to-use resolver-to-digital converter integrated circuits which convert the resolver signals into position and speed measurements are utilized in servo systems most commonly. However, the ready-to-use integrated circuits increase the dependency of the servo system to hardware components which in turn decrease th...
