First reference map for Phanerochaete chrysosporium proteome
Yıldırım, Volkan; Özcengiz, Gülay; Department of Biology (2006)
In this study, the soluble protein fraction of P. chrysosporium grown under standard conditions was analyzed by using 2D-PAGE approach and a 2-D reference map was constructed. 910 spots could be separated and detected on Coomassie-stained 2-D gels by the help of Delta2D image analysis software. 720 spots could be cut from the master gel and were subjected to MALDI-TOF MS analysis followed by MASCOT search. A total of 517 spots out of 720 were assigned to specific accession numbers from the P. chrysosporium ...
First-principles study of GaAs/AlAs nanowire heterostructures
Şenozan, Selma; Tomak, Mehmet; Department of Physics (2012)
Nanowire heterostructures play a crucial role in nanoscale electronics, i.e., one-dimensional electronics derives benefits from the growth of heterostructures along the nanowire axis. We use first-principles plane-wave calculations within density functional theory with the localized density approximation (LDA) to get information about the structural and electronic properties of bare and hydrogen passivated GaAs/AlAs nanowire heterostructures. We also take into account the reconstruction of the nanowire surf...
First basin-wide experimental results on N-2 fixation in the open Mediterranean Sea
Ibello, Valeria; Cozzi, Stefano; Civitarese, Giuseppe (2010-02-09)
The Mediterranean Sea presents several biogeochemical anomalies compared to the global ocean. An unbalanced N budget, high nitrate/phosphate ratios in subsurface waters and low N-15/N-14 ratios in particulate and dissolved nitrogen suggest a significant occurrence of N-2 fixation. This study presents, for the first time, a basin-wide overview of direct measurements of N-2 fixation, with values in the North Atlantic for comparison, during late spring 2007. Very low N-2 fixation rates (0.052 +/- 0.031 nmols N...
First Record of Humpback Dolphins in Mersin Bay, the Eastern Mediterranean, Turkey
ÖZBİLGİN, YELİZ; Kalecik, Ebrucan; Gücü, Ali Cemal (2018-01-01)
Two to four humpback dolphins were first time observed at two occasions on 3 February and 25 April 2016 on Turkish coastal waters of the Northeast Mediterranean. They were recorded by under-water cameras while feeding on fish escaping from experimental demersal trawl during two separate operations conducted on shallow waters. Although the quality of the footage was quite good, the individuals could only be identified at genus level. When the distribution ranges of the genus and recent enlargement of the Sue...
First-Principles Investigation of NOx and SOx Adsorption on Anatase-Supported BaO and Pt Overlayers
Hummatov, Ruslan; GÜLSEREN, Oğuz; ÖZENSOY, EMRAH; Toffoli, Daniele; Toffoli, Hande (2012-03-15)
We present a density functional theory investigation of the adsorption properties of NO and NO2 as well as SO2 and SO3 on BaO and Pt overlayers on anatase TiO2(001) surface. Mono layers, bilayers, and trilayers of BaO grow without strain-induced large scale reconstructions. While the bilayer and trilayer preserve, to a large extent, the NO2 adsorption characteristics of the clean BaO(100) surface, the effect of the support is evident in SO2 and SO3 adsorption energies, which are somewhat reduced with respec...
