Transparent thin film heaters based on silver nanowire networks
Ergün, Orçun; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2015)
Transparent thin film heaters are used in various de-fogging and de-icing applications because of their ability to convert electrical energy to thermal energy while allowing to transmit solar light through a surface. Indium tin oxide (ITO) is the conventional transparent conducting material used in transparent thin film heaters. However, due to scarcity of indium and its increasing prices worldwide, coupled with the inflexibility of ITO, alternative materials are being investigated. Silver nanowire networks...
Transparent Thin Film Heaters Based on Copper Nanowire Networks
Tigan, Doğancan; Polat Genlik, Sevim; İmer, Muhsine Bilge; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah (2018-10-25)
One-dimensional nanostructures open up new avenues in materials science since materials' properties do change with the dimension and size. Silver is a highly appealing material both in nanosize and bulk form. This is because of its high electrical conductivity. Silver nanowires are widely used in electronic and optoelectronic applications. On the other hand, although copper is almost equally conductive and cheaper than silver, copper nanowires are relatively new to these application areas. In this study, tr...
TRANSPARENT GRAPHENE ANODES FOR ORGANIC LIGHT EMITTING DIODES
Sharif, Parisa; Oral, Ahmet; Çırpan, Ali; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2021-7-14)
This thesis presents a novel method for fabrication of OLEDs on a specific flexible PET substrate with graphene anodes, demonstrating low sheet resistance, high work function, and an extremely high luminance. Firstly, a single-layer graphene growth process with chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method is optimized. Flexible anodes are then fabricated by stacking 7-layers of graphene films and doped with nitric acid to reduce the sheet resistance. Modified few layer graphene anodes by 29 Ω/□ sheet resistance a...
Transparent high-data-rate optical transmission through broadband hitless bypass switches for chip-scale optical networks

We demonstrate 10-Gb/s optical data channels through broadband hitless switches, with open eye-diagrams and error-free operation (BERs less than 10−12). Both through- and drop-ports are measured in the hitless operation for transparent chip-scale optical networks.
Transparent, highly flexible, all nanowire network germanium photodetectors
Aksoy, Burcu; Coskun, Sahin; Kucukyildiz, Seyda; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah (2012-08-17)
We report on the fabrication and characterization of all nanowire (NW) network photodetectors. For this purpose, germanium (Ge) NW networks are used as active semiconducting elements, whereas single walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) and silver (Ag) NW networks are used as the contacts. Following their synthesis, all NW networks are deposited through simple solution based methods. Photoresponse characteristics and transparency of the photodetectors for different Ge NW densities are measured. The fabricated devic...
