Performance of electron reconstruction and selection with the CMS detector in proton-proton collisions at root s=8 TeV
Khachatryan, V.; et. al. (IOP Publishing, 2015-06-01)
The performance and strategies used in electron reconstruction and selection at CMS are presented based on data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb(-1), collected in proton-proton collisions at root s = 8TeV at the CERN LHC. The paper focuses on prompt isolated electrons with transverse momenta ranging from about 5 to a few 100 GeV. A detailed description is given of the algorithms used to cluster energy in the electromagnetic calorimeter and to reconstruct electron trajectories in the trac...
Performance of Automatic Scanning Microscope for Nuclear Emulsion Experiments
Güler, Ali Murat (2015-03-23)
The impressive improvements in scanning technology and methods let nuclear emulsion to be used as a target in recent large experiments. We report the performance of an automatic scanning microscope for nuclear emulsion experiments. After successful calibration and alignment of the system, we have reached 99% tracking efficiency for the minimum ionizing tracks that penetrating through the emulsions films. The automatic scanning system is successfully used for the scanning of emulsion films in the OPERA exper...
Performance of M-ary pulse position modulation for aeronautical uplink communications in an atmospheric turbulent medium
Ata, Yalcin; Baykal, Yahya; Gokce, Muhsin Caner (The Optical Society, 2019-10-01)
This paper discusses the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of an aeronautical uplink optical wireless communication system (OWCS) when a Gaussian beam is employed and the M-ary pulse position modulation technique is used in an atmospheric turbulent medium. Weak turbulence conditions and log-normal distribution are utilized. The Gaussian beam is assumed to propagate on a slant path, the transmitter being ground-based, and the airborne receiver is on-axis positioned. Variations of BER are obtained against the ...
