İsrail’in Özür Dilemesi Sonrası Türkiye-İsrail İlişkileri

2013-06-01
This article aims to anaylze the Israeli apology of March 2013. The article firstly looks at the series of crises in the 2000s in bilateral relations and argues how the common threat perceptions and common interests of the 1990s has vaned during this decade, bringing a more cautious approach. Later it looks at the post-2008 period, in the aftermath of the Operation Cast Lead, when the tension in the relations began to escalate and reached a breaking point after the Mavi Marmara incident. The article argues that behind the Israeli apology lies the developments related with the Arab Spring as well as a demand for change in Israeli politics after the January elections. The article concludes by looking at the challenges that might hamper further cooperation between the two countries, like possible differences of interest over regional politics in general and Syria in particular and the developments in the Palestinian issue.
