The role of intermetallic particles on mode I crack propagation mechanisms in metal plates
Tekog̃lu, C.; Çelik, Ş.; Duran, H.; EFE, MERT; Baier-Stegmaier, S.; Nielsen, K.L. (2021-08-01)
In metal plates, the crack propagation mechanism sets the amount of the plastic deformation before failure: a slanted or a cup–cone crack typically yields limited plate thinning within the fracture process zone, while large deformation precedes cup–cup crack propagation. The present work investigates the effect of intermetallic particles on the propagation mechanisms and the associated fracture surface morphologies when tearing Al 1050 plates under far-field mode I loading. Both single edge notched and doub...
The role of alkali-metal promotion on CO oxidation over PdO/SnO2 catalysts
MİRKELAMOĞLU, BURCU; Karakaş, Gürkan (Elsevier BV, 2006-01-17)
Sol-gel prepared PdO/SnO2 and Na-PdO/SnO2 catalysts were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), diffuse reflectance IR (DRIFTS), temperature-programmed reaction spectroscopy (TPRS) and impulse techniques. Alkali-metal promotion was observed to enhance CO oxidation rate and decreases light-off temperatures of PdO/SnO, XPS analysis revealed that alkali-metal promotion resulted in the segregation of Pd atoms and promoted the oxygen storage capacity of the catalysts. The presence of super-oxide...
The role of overstrength on the seismic performance of asymmetric-plan structures
Kaatsız, Kaan; Sucuoğlu, Haluk (Wiley, 2019-04-10)
Uneven distribution of seismic demand in asymmetric-plan structures is a critical concern in earthquake-resistant design. Contemporary seismic design strategies that are based on linear elastic response, single load reduction factor, and uniform ductility demand throughout an asymmetric system generally lead to unsatisfactory performance in terms of realized ductilities and nonuniform damage distribution due to strong torsional coupling associated with asymmetric-plan systems. In many cases, actual nonlinea...
The Role of precious metal nanoparticles on the oxygen exchange kinetics from ceria
Kaya, Deniz; Üner, Deniz; Kıncal, Serkan; Department of Chemical Engineering (2016)
The oxygen exchange kinetics of precious metal added ceria and ceria-alumina oxides were investigated by temperature programmed analyses and microcalorimetric measurements. 1 wt. % Pd/CeO2 and 1 wt. % Pd/Al2O3 oxides were synthesized by the incipient wetness method. 1 wt. % Pd/CeO2-Al2O3 oxides with 20 wt. %, 15 wt. % and 10 wt. % loadings of ceria were synthesized by the sequential impregnation method. Temperature programmed reduction (TPR) analysis was performed to analyze the reducibility of prepared oxi...
The role of calcium ion on activated sludge biochemical and physical properties in phosphorus deficient growth medium
Aksu, Ceren; Sanin, Faika Dilek; Gültekin, Güzin Candan; Department of Biotechnology (2010)
Nutrients and cations have significant effect on activated sludge characteristics and therefore effect the efficiency of whole processes. To determine the properties in phosphorus deficient medium and the effect of calcium ions two reactor sets with two different phosphorus concentration (C/N/P=100/5/0.05 and C/N/P=100/5/1), three different concentrations of calcium (0.5, 5, 15 meq/L) were operated with 8 days of sludge residence time and an effective volume of 2 L. Results showed amount and composition of ...
