Performance based assessment of rammed aggregate piers
Çetin, Kemal Önder; Lale, Öner (null; 2015-09-17)
Within the confines of this paper, a normalized displacement-based capacity mobilization scheme is presented for rammed aggregate piers (RAP). For this purpose, field load tests, performed on 63 RAPs, in Turkey, were assessed. Site investigations at these sites revealed that generalized soil profiles are mostly composed of normally consolidated clay layers extending to a depth of 18 m. Below this depth, usually medium dense to dense sand / hard greywacke / very stiff to hard clay layers are present. A weigh...
Performance based seismic design of reinforced concrete tall buildings
Budak, Erhan; Sucuoğlu, Haluk (null; 2017-01-13)
The need for tall buildings are steadily increasing all over the world, in parallel to the need for new living spaces in large cities. Improvements in technological equipment, material science and analysis methods have opened opportunities to construct new life areas by rising along the vertical direction instead of horizontal. Unlike regular buildings, tall buildings are peculiar due to their specific architectural properties and building configurations. On the other hand, most of these buildings are locat...
Performance based seismic design of reinforced concrete tall buildings
Budak, Erhan; Sucuoğlu, Haluk; Department of Civil Engineering (2015)
Cities, their economies and populations are steadily increasing all over the world. In parallel, the land prices in those cities are rising enormously, hence the need for new living spaces has been arisen. These results bring some obligations and new perspectives for those cities in order to address their needs. In addition, improvements and developments in technological equipment, material science and analyses methods have opened great opportunities to construct new life areas by rising the vertical direct...
Performance improvement studies of masonry houses using elastic post-tensioning straps
Türer, Ahmet; KORKMAZ, HASAN HÜSNÜ (2007-04-25)
Unreinforced masonry houses are composed of building blocks with weak inter-binding action between them which commonly possess low tensile strength. The principal tensile stresses generated by out-of-plane bending and in-plane shear forces cannot be tolerated well and leads to heavy structural damage and brittle collapse beyond linear capacity of the material. Remedies such as externally applied mesh reinforcement and post-tensioning improves post and pre-cracking performances; however, yielding of reinforc...
Performance Based Seismic Evaluation of a 62 Story RC Tower in Istanbul
Budak, Erhan; Sucuoğlu, Haluk (2018-06-18)
A 62-story tall reinforced concrete office building with a free-standing height of 250 m has been designed in Istanbul in accordance with the new Turkish Earthquake Code (TEC, 2017). According to TEC 2017, buildings taller than 70 m and located in the first and second seismic zones are classified as tall buildings and these building shall be designed to meet the special rules based on performance-based seismic design approach. The tall building in Istanbul, having a parallelogram shaped floor plan and reinf...
