Ultra-small oscillation amplitude nc-AFM/STM imaging, force and dissipation spectroscopy of Si(100)(2 × 1)
Özer, Hakan Özgür; Atabak, Mehrdad; Oral, Ahmet (2002-12-01)
Si(100)(2 × 1) surface is imaged using a new nc-AFM (non-contact atomic force microscopy)/STM with sub-Ångstrom oscillation amplitudes using stiff hand-made tungsten levers. Simultaneous force gradient and scanning tunneling microscopy images of individual dimers and atomic scale defects are obtained. We measured force-distance and dissipation-distance curves with different tips. Some of the tips show long-range force interactions, whereas some others resolve short-range interatomic force interactions. We o...
Ultra-fast charge exchange spectroscopy for turbulent ion temperature fluctuation measurements on the DIII-D tokamak (invited)
Uzun Kaymak, İlker Ümit; McKee, G. R. (2012-10-01)
A novel two-channel, high throughput, high efficiency spectrometer system has been developed to measure impurity ion temperature and toroidal velocity fluctuations associated with long-wavelength turbulence and other plasma instabilities. The spectrometer observes the emission of the n = 8-7 hydrogenic transition of C+5 ions (lambda(air) = 529.06 nm) resulting from charge exchange reactions between deuterium heating beams and intrinsic carbon. Novel features include a large, prism-coupled high-dispersion, v...
Ultra-High Precision Radiation Dosimetry via Laser Bleaching the Color Centers in Fast Recovery Optical Fiber Sensors
Ghahrizjani, Reza Taheri; Ameri, Mohsen; Jahanbakhsh, Hossein; Sadeghi, Hossein; Mohajerani, Ezeddin (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2020-06-01)
High energy electromagnetic radiation or heavy charged particles are extensively used for medical treatment of certain cancers. Precise prediction or measurements of energy deposition of any types of radiation on tissue is critical in radiation therapy. In this research, the sensitivity of optical fiber dosimeters specifically doped with phosphor (P), Germanium (Ge) and Erbium (Er) are analyzed using Co-60 source at 169 cGy/min. The sensors are calibrated and the values of radiation induced attenuation (RIA...

Ultrafast photoinduced carrier dynamics of organic semiconductors measured by Time-Resolved Terahertz Spectroscopy
Esentürk, Okan; Lane, Paul A.; Heilweil, Edwin J. (2010-04-28)
Intrinsic properties of organic semiconductors are investigated by Time-Resolved Terahertz Spectroscopy (TRTS) to assess their relative mobilities and efficiencies. Our results are well correlated with device measurements and show the effectiveness and advantages of using this non-contact optical technique to rapidly identify prospective materials. After a brief introduction of the TRTS technique, we summarize our results from relative mobility measurements of the organic semiconductor polymers poly(3-hexyl...
