An instability of finite amplitude ion-acoustic waves.

A protective association between catalase and isocitrate lyase in peroxisomes
Yanık, Tülin (2005-03-01)
Glyoxysomes are specialized peroxisomes in germinating seeds, which catalyze many reactions that convert fatty acids into carbohydrates thus generating H2O2. They are characterized by the presence of catalase (CAT, E.C. 1.11.1.6) in their matrix which protects cells from oxidative stress. Here, we investigated the possibility that a protein can be protected from oxidative damage by its association with CAT. We purified peroxisomal CAT from germinating castor beans by ion exchange, gel filtration, and hydrox...
An acenaphthopyrrolone-dipicolylamine derivative as a selective and sensitive chemosensor for group IIB cations
Coskun, Ali; Yilmaz, M. Deniz; Akkaya, Engin U. (2006-05-29)
The recently reported acenaphthopyrrolone (ACNP) class of fluorophores have remarkably bright emission in the red end of the visible spectrum. We demonstrated that straightforward derivatization with 2-aminoethyl-dipicolylamine yields a selective and sensitive chemosensor for Zn(II). Cd(II) and Hg(II) ions. Further modifications could result in water-soluble derivatives, with practical applications in intracellular imaging of Zn(II) concentrations.
A direct role of collagen glycation in bone fracture
Poundarik, Atharva A.; Wu, Ping-Cheng; Evis, Zafer; Sroga, Grazyna E.; Ural, Ani; Rubin, Mishaela; Vashishth, Deepak (2015-12-01)
Non-enzymatic glycation (NEG) is an age-related process accelerated by diseases like diabetes, and causes the accumulation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs). NEG-mediated modification of bone's organic matrix, principally collagen type-I, has been implicated in impairing skeletal physiology and mechanics. Here, we present evidence, from in vitro and in vivo models, and establish a causal relationship between collagen glycation and alterations in bone fracture at multiple length scales. Through atomi...
Anomalous heating rate dependence of thermoluminescence in Tl2GaInS4 single crystals
DELİCE, SERDAR; Bulur, Enver; Hasanlı, Nızamı (2014-12-01)
Trap centers in Tl2GaInS4 single crystals have been investigated by thermoluminescence (TL) measurements in the temperature range of 10-110 K. Curve-fitting method was utilized to evaluate the activation energies (12 and 26 meV) of revealed two trap centers. Thermal cleaning method was applied to the spectra and two overlapping peaks were reduced to one single peak corresponding to deeper trap level. The characteristics of heating rate dependence and trap distribution of the separated peak have been studied...
