Archaeometrical study on marble forgery
Songül, Güneş; Günal Türkmenoğlu, Asuman; Demirci, Şahinde; Department of Archaeometry (2012)
This thesis focuses on the detection of marble sculpture forgery made of cultured marble. Cultured marble is a mixture of marble dust, polyester and accelerators. Thus chemical analysis of cultured marble would give declined levels of calcium when compared to authentic sculptures. Since sample removal is a problem when dealing with archaeological heritage, the instrument used was portable X-Ray Fluorescence device which provides in situ analysis of the samples. Device has been used to analyze six authentic ...

Archaeometric analyses of mural paintings from ancient Side (Antalya) theatre gallery M
Kaymaz, Saadet; Atalay, Mustafa Ümit.; Department of Archaeometry (2019)
In this study material of wall paintings were analyzed to determine the structure of plasters, mortars, and pigments of Side wall painting samples. Archaeometrical methods were used to investigate mineralogical and chemical compositions and raw material characterization. Binder-aggregate ratio and particle size distribution analysis, gravimetric analysis, petrographical thin section optical microscopy analysis, Raman Spectrometry, XRD, PED-XRF, SEM-EDX techniques and methods were used to examine the samples...
Opti-acoustic stereo imaging
Saç, Hakan; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal; Salor Durna, Özgül; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2012)
In this thesis, opti-acoustic stereo imaging, which is the deployment of two-dimensional (2D) high frequency imaging sonar with the electro-optical camera in calibrated stereo configuration, is studied. Optical cameras give detailed images in clear waters. However, in dark or turbid waters, information coming from electro-optical sensor is insufficient for accurate scene perception. Imaging sonars, also known as acoustic cameras, can provide enhanced target details under these scenarios. To illustrate these...
Archaeometrical studies on plasters of some historical buildings
Çiftçi, Burcu Devrim; Türker, Burhan Lemi; Department of Archaeometry (2007)
The present study aims to investigate the composition of historical plasters to get information about their material characteristics and their technology. Plaster samples were obtained from four Ankara Citadel houses built in late Ottoman period. In order to determine the raw material characteristics and mineralogical properties of plasters; chemical analyses, optical observation of cross sections, petrographic analyses of thin sections, elemental analyses by ICP-OES, X-ray powder diffraction analyses for t...
