Phase mixing in GaSb nanocrystals synthesized by nonequilibrium plasma aerotaxy
Üner, Necip Berker; Thimsen, Elijah (2020-05-01)
III-V semiconductor nanocrystals are an important class of optoelectronic materials. However, the gas-phase synthesis of these materials, especially of the stibnides, has been left relatively unexplored. In this study, we demonstrate the synthesis of free-standing GaSb nanocrystals for the first time, using a novel gas-phase process. We show that when elemental aerosols are used as precursors for Ga and Sb, the elements mix at the nanometer length scale as the aerosols pass through a nonequilibrium plasma r...
Phase transition of chemically synthesized FePt nanoparticles under high pressure
ŞİMŞEK, TELEM; Karci, Ozgur; ÖZCAN, ŞADAN (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, 2018-01-01)
We present the results of a study related to phase transformation of chemically synthesized FePt nanoparticles under high pressure from face-centered cubic into face-centered tetragonal structure. As-synthesized nanoparticles are around 4.5 nm and show superparamagnetic behavior at 300 K. After annealing under 60 bar pressure of hydrogen at 400 degrees C for 2 h, nanoparticles exhibit strong ferromagnetic behavior with 5391 Oe coercivity. Results show that high-pressure annealing lowers the decomposition te...
Phase-field modeling of vapor bubble growth in a microchannel
Jafari, R.; Okutucu Özyurt, Hanife Tuba (2015-09-01)
Anumerical model based on Cahn–Hilliard phase-field method is introduced for thefirst time in the literature to investigate the hydrodynamics and heat transfercharacteristics of a vaporized elongated bubble in a rectangular microchannel. In thesimulations, the initially nucleated bubble starts growing as it comes in contact withsuperheated water. The effects of the water inlet velocity and the bubble contact angleon the temporal evolution of the average hea...
Phase separation in SiGe nanocrystals embedded in SiO2 matrix during high temperature annealing
Mogaddam, N. A. P.; Alagoz, A. S.; Yerci, Selçuk; Turan, Raşit; FOSS, SEAN; Finstad, T. G. (2008-12-15)
SiGe nanocrystals have been formed in SiO2 matrix by cosputtering Si, Ge, and SiO2 independently on Si substrate. Effects of the annealing time and temperature on structural and compositional properties are studied by transmission electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction (XRD), and Raman spectroscopy measurements. It is observed that Ge-rich Si(1-x)Gex nanocrystals do not hold their compositional uniformity when annealed at high temperatures for enough long time. A segregation process leading to separation of...
Phase locked dielectric resonator oscillator design and fabrication for receiver systems
Köksal, Remzi; Koç, Seyit Sencer; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2016)
Oscillators play an important role in transmitters and receivers. In these systems, stable frequency source and low phase noise are critical for system performance. In radio frequencies, phase locked dielectric resonator oscillators are one of the best options in terms of cost, dimension, and performance. These oscillators are widely used in systems such as RADAR, electronic warfare, and communication. In this thesis, design methodology of phase locked dielectric resonator oscillator is given, an oscillator...
