A Study of Crystallization in Plasma Modified Polypropylene
Mansuroglu, Dogan; Mecit, Giray; Uzun Kaymak, İlker Ümit (2019-01-01)
A capacitively coupled radio-frequency plasma discharge is used to improve the surface properties of Polypropylene. The changes in the surfaces are investigated for various plasma discharge parameters. After the plasma modification, the polypropylene material transforms into a para-crystalline form and shows the properties of the monoclinic crystals dominantly, observed using the X-ray diffraction measurements. The results indicate significant improvements in the crystallinity after the plasma exposure. The...
A STUDY ON THE YIELD STRESS OF PERLITE-FILLED HIGH-DENSITY POLYETHYLENES
OKTEM, GA; TINCER, T (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1993-12-01)
Four different types of high-density polyethylenes were blended with expanded perlite at different compositions. Gamma-aminopropyltriethoxysilane was applied to perlite (2 wt%) from ether and water solutions to enhance the interfacial adhesion between the polymer and the filler. It was shown that silane treatment advances the yield stress with improving dispersion and increasing the interfacial adhesion of the filler with the polymer matrix. The experimental results were then checked with the expression of ...
A parametric study on hydrothermal synthesis of zinc oxide nanowires with various zinc salts
Akgün, Mehmet Can; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2012)
ZnO is a promising semiconducting material for manufacturing optoelectronic devices. Its most important properties are its wide and direct band gap and its high electron-hole binding energy. Synthesis of ZnO in bulk and thin film form has been investigated intensively over recent decades. Likewise, nanomaterials have been in the point of focus for their different properties compared to their bulk form. The vastly increased ratio of surface area to volume and change in electronic properties with great reduct...
A parametric study on processing of scratch resistant hybrid sol-gel silica coatings on polycarbonate
Yavas, Hakan; Selcuk, C. Duygu Ozturk; Ozhan, A. E. Sinan; Durucan, Caner (2014-04-01)
Scratch resistant silica-based hybrid coatings on polycarbonate substrates were formed by dip-coating of acid-catalyzed tetramethyl ortohosilicate (TMOS): diethylenetriamine (DETA): H2O:2-propanol sols. The sol formulation and dip-coating process parameters on microstructural and performance properties-here optical transmittance and scratch resistance-of the coatings were evaluated. The effect of water quantity, total aqueous component (H2O + 2-propanol) amount and relative proportion of TMOS: DETA on film ...
A dft study of ethylene adsorption and hydrogenation mechanisms on nickel
Yılmazer, Nusret Duygu; Önal, Işık; Department of Chemical Engineering (2010)
Ethylene adsorption was studied by use of DFT/B3LYP with basis set 6-31G(d,p) in Gaussian‘03 software. It was found that ethylene adsorbs molecularly on the Ni13 nanocluster with π adsorption mode. π adsorption mode is studied for the Ni10 (1 1 1), Ni13 (1 0 0) and Ni10 (1 1 0) surface cluster as well. Relative energy values were calculated as −50.86 kcal/mol, −20.48 kcal/mol, −32.44 kcal/mol and −39.27 kcal/mol for Ni13 nanocluster, Ni10 (1 1 1), Ni13 (1 0 0) and Ni10 (1 1 0) surface cluster models, respec...
