Effects of melodic accents on perception of intensity
Tekman, HG (University of California Press, 1998-06-01)
Melodically accented tones are perceived as having higher intensity. Subjects judged whether or not all of the tones in a sequence were of equal intensity. Melodic accents were created by pitch skips, and the intensity of the tones that followed the skips was manipulated. Introduction of the melodic accents reduced detection of lower intensity tones more than it reduced the detection of higher intensity tones. This effect did not change as a result of regular or irregular timing of the tones whose intensity...
Effects of swimming start block slope and height on swimming start performance
Ödek, Uğur; Kirazcı, Sadettin; Department of Physical Education and Sports (2015)
The purpose of the present study was to examine effects of slope and height of starting block on swimming start performance. Total 6 six competitive swimmers (Mage = 17.9years, SD = 1.18; MBW = 82.65kg, SD = 1.38; Mheight = 180.83cm, SD = 2.93) participated in this study. 3-dimensional motion analysis and 2-dimensional dynamic data analysis techniques used to evaluate block phase of swimming start. Kinematic and kinetic data obtained by using four different block settings. Multiple two-way within subject AN...
Effects of kind and amount of cognitive load and duration on prospective time estimation
Bıyık Sarı, Fatma; Hohenberger, Annette Edeltraud; Department of Cognitive Sciences (2015)
The estimation of temporal intervals is influenced by characteristics of a secondary task carried out during those intervals. Different kinds of cognitive load (e.g., memory load, attentional demand) and different amounts of load (low, high) of the secondary tasks modulate time estimation. Increase in the amount of cognitive load decreases time estimation. According to the Attentional Gate Model this is because the more attention is allocated to the secondary task, the less attention is left for the primary...
Effects of stimulus speed, exercise intensity, and experience level on coincidence anticipation timing in badminton players
Golshaei, Bahman; Kirazcı, Sadettin; Department of Physical Education and Sports (2020)
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of stimulus speed, exercise intensity, and experience level (experienced, novice, & sedentary) on coincidence- anticipation timing performance of adolescent badminton players. 139 participants consist of experienced (n=42), novice (n=43) badminton players, and sedentary (n=54) with the age range of 11 to 17 years old voluntarily participated in the presented study after ethical approval. Coincidence anticipation timing scores was evaluated by Bassin Antic...
Effects of trend strength and direction on performance and consistency in judgmental exchange rate forecasting
Thomson, Mary E.; Pollock, Andrew C.; Gönül, Mustafa Sinan; ÖNKAL, DİLEK (2013-04-01)
Using real financial data, this study examines the influence of trend direction and strength on judgmental exchange rate forecasting performance and consistency. Participants generated forecasts for each of 20 series. Half of the participants also answered two additional questions regarding their perceptions about the strength and direction of the trend present in each of the series under consideration. The performance on ascending trends was found to be superior to that on descending trends, and the perfor...
