Behavior of Polylactide Montmorillonite Nanocomposites
Sarı, Burcu; Kaynak, Cevdet (2016-10-01)
Polylactide (PLA) is one of the most essential biopolymeric material thanks to its renewability, biodegradability and biocompatibility. PLA has significant commercial use in food packaging industry and biomedical applications. However, it has not taken place yet in engineering applications when compared with traditional petroleum-based polymers because of its insufficient mechanical and thermal properties. The purpose of this study was to overcome these problems by using nanocomposite approach. In this mann...
Behavior of polylactide/microcrystalline cellulose biocomposites: effects of filler content and interfacial compatibilization
DOĞU, Berk; Kaynak, Cevdet (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2016-02-01)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) content on the properties of polylactide (PLA) biocomposites; including the influences of maleic anhydride (MA) grafted PLA copolymer compatibilization. PLA/MCC biocomposites were produced by industrially compatible production techniques, i.e. twin-screw extrusion melt-mixing for compounding and injection molding for shaping of bulk specimens. SEM analysis and mechanical tests indicated that use of 3 wt% MCC resulte...
Behavior of neuro-2A cells on femtosecond laser structured silicon substrates
Mingu, Sara; Bek, Alpan; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2020)
Cells are known to interact with their physical environment and respond to cues such as substrate topography. Knowledge of the cell responses to topography may give information about cell behavior in health and disease, as well as be exploited in order to exert control on cells for various purposes. Cell responses to topography are dependent on cell type, substrate material and topographical features. In the present study, Neuro-2a cell line was used as a versatile and widely available neuronal cell model. ...
Behavior of pollutants percolation in homogeneous porous media
Sepehri, Shirin; Durgut, İsmail; Okandan, Ender; Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering (2016)
Spillage of petroleum products in soil, rivers and lakes is a problem since the advent of the petroleum era. Contamination of groundwater is one of the most important hazard of spill because it is a threat to animals, plants as well as human life. Fingerprinting of oil spills plays an important role in order to select the best treatment and cleanup method. Soil type, amount and type of contaminant, weathering conditions such as rainfall and wind are important factors that influence soil contamination. In th...
Behaviour of bimetallic Pt-Pd carbon-supported catalysts in methanol electrooxidation
Gokagac, G; Leger, JM; Hahn, F (Walter de Gruyter GmbH, 2003-05-01)
Carbon powder supported bimetallic 8w%Pt+8w%Pd/C, 8w%Pt+6w%Pd/C, 8w%Pt+4w%Pd/C, Sw%Pt+2w%Pd/C, 8w%Pt/C and 8w%Pd/C samples were prepared, characterised and tested for the electrooxidation of methanol. The particle sizes were found to depend greatly on the composition and the metal content. With pure palladium and samples rich in palladium, the diameter of the bimetallic particles was around 150 nm, but with pure Pt and samples poor in Pd it was much smaller, below 5 nm. The electrocatalytic activity of thes...
