Microstructural and texture evolution during thermo-hydrogen processing of Ti6Al4V alloys produced by electron beam melting
Dogu, Merve Nur; ESEN, ZİYA; Davut, Kemal; Tan, Evren; Gumus, Berkay; Dericioğlu, Arcan Fehmi (Elsevier BV, 2020-10-01)
The present study was conducted to reveal the effects of building angles and post heat-treatments (2-step Thermo-Hydrogen Processing (THP) and conventional annealing treatment) on the density, microstructure and texture of Ti6Al4V alloy parts produced by Electron Beam Melting (EBM). The results showed that regardless of the building angle; the density, microstructure and crystallographic texture (defined with respect to building angle) of the as-produced samples were identical; having Widmanstatten a struct...
Microstructural characteristics of gas tungsten arc synthesised Fe-Cr-Si-Ccoating
Yılmaz, Osman; Özenbaş, Ahmet Macit (2002-10-01)
The gas tungsten arc (GTA) method was used to synthesise Fe - Cr - Si - C alloy coatings, and processing effects on the coating were investigated experimentally. Coatings were developed on an AISI type 1040 steel substrate. Four different regions were obtained in the surface coating; and in these regions either a hypoeutectic or a hypereutectic microstructure was found. The hypoeutectic microstructure consisted of primary dendrites of austenite (gamma) phase and eutectic M7C3 (M = Cr,Fe) carbides. On the ot...
Microstructure effects on process outputs in micro scale milling of heat treated Ti6Al4V titanium alloys
Ahmadi, Masoud; Karpat, Yigit; ACAR, Ozgun; Kalay, Yunus Eren (2018-02-01)
This study investigates the influence of materials' microstructural characteristics, including grain size and phase fractions, in micro end milling of heat treated Ti6Al4V titanium alloys. Micro milling process conditions such as feed, depth of cut, and the cutting edge radius of the micro end mill are in the same order of magnitude as the grain size of the material, which gives rise to the anisotropic behavior of the multiphase materials and their deformation characteristics considering their grain size, g...

Microstructural characterization of hypoeutectoid steels quenched from the Ae1 - Ae3 intercritical temperature range by magnetic barkhausen noise technique
Boyacıoğlu, Beril; Gür, Cemil Hakan; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2006)
This thesis aims to examine the possibility of using Magnetic Barkhausen Noise technique in characterizing the ferritic-martensitic microstructure of hypoeutectoid steels quenched from the intercritical temperature range. For this purpose, rectangular specimens were prepared from SAE 1020, 1040 and 1060 steels. The specimens were heated at different temperatures within the intercritical temperature range and then quenched into water. Microstructures of the specimens were characterized by metallographic exam...
