Pricing and Production Decisions in Reusable Container Systems Busra Atamer, Industrial Engineering, Middle East Technical University, ODTU Endustri Muhendisligi Bolumu, Oda No:326, Orta Dogu Teknik Universitesi Kampusu, 06531, Ankara, Turkey, busra@ie.metu.edu.tr, Ismail Serdar Bakal, Z. Pelin Bayindir In this study, we consider decision problems on reusable container systems. The return rate of containers depends on customer demand and deposit price; and the producer determines the return rate via modifying the latter.Production planning and pricing decisions are to be made simultaneously because the producer also has to decide on the quantity of brand new reusable containers to be purchased. In this environment, we maximize the manufacturer’s profit by utilizing constrained non-linear optimization techniques. We gain significant insights with our analytical and computational observations

Optimal Pricing and Production Planning Decisions in Reusable Container Systems
Atamer, Büşra; Bayındır, Zeynep Pelin; Bakal, İsmail Serdar (2010-08-23)
Optimal pricing and production planning decisions in reusable container systems Büsra Atamer, Ismail Bakal, Pelin Bayindir Middle East Technical University, Industrial Engineering Department, Turkey The main objective of the study is to focus on the decision making problems in reusable container systems with stochastic demand. Optimal pricing and production planning decisions in reusable container systems result in more pro!table and environmental-friendly production alternatives for manufacturers an...
Optimal pricing and production decisions in reusable container systems
Atamer, Büşra; Bakal, İsmail Serdar; Department of Industrial Engineering (2010)
In this study, we focus on pricing and production decisions in reusable container systems with stochastic demand. We consider a producer that sells a single product to the customers in reusable containers with two supply options: (i) brand-new containers, (ii) returned containers from customers. Customers purchasing the products may return the containers to the producer to receive a deposit price. The return quantity depends on both customer demand and the deposit price determined by the producer. Hence, th...
Efficiency analysis of Turkish natural gas distribution companies by using data envelopment analysis method
Erturk, Mehmet; Turut-Asik, Serap (2011-03-01)
This paper analyzes the performance of 38 Turkish natural gas distribution companies by using a non-parametric method, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The results are used to determine the most proper model specification, to detect the important criteria affecting the efficiency levels, and to find the common characteristics of the most inefficient firms. We find that public firms compared to private firms, non-tender firms compared to tender firms, large firms compared to small firms and firms operating i...
Physical Properties and Erosion Behavior of Poly(trimethylene carbonate-co-epsilon-caprolactone) Networks
Bat, Erhan; Harmsen, Martin C.; Plantinga, Josee A.; van Luyn, Marja J. A.; Feijen, Jan; Grijpma, Dirk W. (Wiley, 2013-05-01)
Form-stable resorbable networks are prepared by gamma irradiating trimethylene carbonate (TMC)- and epsilon-caprolactone (CL)-based (co)polymer films. To evaluate their suitability for biomedical applications, their physical properties and erosion behavior are investigated. Homopolymer and copolymer networks that are amorphous at room temperature are flexible and rubbery with elastic moduli ranging from 1.8 +/- 0.3 to 5.2 +/- 0.4MPa and permanent set values as low as 0.9% strain. The elastic moduli of the s...
Efficiency in the manufacturing industry of selected provinces in Turkey - A stochastic frontier analysis
Onder, AO; Deliktas, E; Lenger, A (2003-03-01)
This paper measures technical efficiency and technical and total factor productivity changes by estimating a translog stochastic frontier production function for the Turkish manufacturing industry in selected provinces. This method incorporates technical change and has time-varying technical efficiency effects. The stochastic frontier function was estimated by using panel data based on eighteen selected provinces of Turkey for the 1990-98 period The performance of the public and private sector manufacturing...
