Disintegration Efficiency of Pulsed Electric Field Induced Effects on Onion (Allium cepa L.) Tissues as a Function of Pulse Protocol and Determination of Cell Integrity by 1H-NMR Relaxometry
ERSUS, Seda; Öztop, Halil Mecit; MCCARTHY, Michael J.; BARRETT, Diane M. (2010-09-10)
The influence of electrical pulse protocol parameters on cell rupture of onion tissues was investigated in order to improve fundamental understanding and to enhance the processing of plant tissues with pulsed electric fields (PEFs). The impact of PEF parameters on cell integrity of 20 mm dia, 4-mm thick disks of Don Victor onions (Allium cepa L.) was determined by ion leakage measurements. Electric field strength, pulse width, total pulse duration, and frequency effects were determined in relation to their ...
Dissipative behavior and gamma-irradiation of silver-sheathed Bi1.8Pb0.4Sr2Ca2Cu3Ox tape
Albiss, BA; Hasan, MK; Al-Akhras, MA; Al-Omari, IA; Shariah, A; Shobaki, J; Azez, KA; Ozkan, H (2000-05-01)
Dissipative mechanisms in Bi1.8Pb0.4Sr2Ca2Cu3Ox tapes were investigated using magnetoresistance measurements and V-I characteristics. A considerable broadening of the resistive transition in applied magnetic field was observed up to a field of 0.5 T. The temperature and magnetic field dependence of the resistance R(T,B) were fitted to the Arrhenius relation and from which the magnetic field dependence of the pinning energy U-0(B) similar to B-alpha with alpha approximate to 0.9 was derived. The variations o...
Dispersion Corrected DFT Study of Pentacene Thin Films on Flat and Vicinal Au(111) Surfaces
METE, ERSEN; Danışman, Mehmet Fatih (2015-02-19)
Here we present a density functional theory study of pentacene ultrathin films on flat and vicinal [(455)] Au(111) surfaces. We have performed crystal and electronic structure calculations by using PBE and optB86b-vdW functionals and investigated the effects of long-range van der Waals interactions for different coverages starting from a single isolated molecule up to 4 monolayers of coverage. For an isolated molecule both functionals yield the hollow site as the most stable one with the bridge-60 site bein...
Hyperspectral imaging and machine learning of texture foods for classification
Ataş, Musa; Çetin, Yasemin; Department of Information Systems (2011)
In this thesis the main objective is to design a machine vision system that classifies aflatoxin contaminated chili peppers from uncontaminated ones in a rapid and non-destructive manner via hyperspectral imaging and machine learning techniques. Hyperspectral image series of chili pepper samples collected from different regions of Turkey have been acquired under halogen and UV illuminations. A novel feature set based on quantized absolute difference of consecutive spectral band features is proposed. Spectra...
Dispersion of a swarm of robots based on realistic wireless intensity signals
Ugur, Emre; Turgut, Ali Emre; Şahin, Erol (2007-11-09)
The problem of dispersion in multi-robot systems could be loosely defined as maximizing the sensor coverage area while preserving the connectivity within the swarm. Dispersion of robotic swarms appears to be applicable and useful in missions such as planetary exploration, hurricane surveillance, or nuclear decontamination, where the robots with maximal coverage collect samples from the unknown surface, detect the victims, or collect nuclear waste, respectively. In this paper, a simple dispersion algorithm b...
