Effect of hot water curing on the mechanical properties and durability of cement mortars incorporating silica fume
Ince, Ceren (Journal of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of Gazi University, 2020-01-01)
It is known that curing temperature plays an important role on the fresh and hardened properties of cement-based materials. The increase in curing temperature at early period results in an accelerated hydration reaction that increases the rate of strength development of cement-based materials. However, the application of very high temperatures during curing negatively affects the strength and durability of the cement-based materials generally due to the expansion that takes place in the matrix. The main pur...
Effect of Dry Process Crumb Rubber Modification on the Compactibility of Warm and Hot Mix Asphalt
Öztürk, Hande Işık (2018-09-28)
This study focused on the association of the dry process crumb rubber (CR) modification and Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) methods. The effects of conditioning time, mixing and compaction temperatures were analyzed to overcome the binder-CR interaction problems at lower temperatures. Three different asphalt mixes were prepared: Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), Dry process CR modified HMA (Dry HMA) and Dry Process CR modified WMA (Dry WMA). Since the conditioning time was significant to facilitate the bond between the CR part...
Effect of calcium oxide addition on carbothermic formation of hexagonal boron nitride
Özkenter, Ali Arda; Sevinç, Naci; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2009)
Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) formation by carbothermic reduction of B2O3 under nitrogen atmosphere at 1500°C and effect of CaO addition into the initial B2O3 – active C mixture were investigated during this study. Reaction products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and quantitative chemical analysis. Main aim of this study was to investigate the presence of a second reaction mechanism that catalytically affects h-BN formation during CaO or CaCO3 addition in...
Effect of sodium carbonate on carbothermic formation of hexagonal boron nitride
Akyıldız, Uğur; Sevinç, Naci; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2010)
Effect of Na2CO3 on formation of hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) by carbothermic method has been studied by subjecting B2O3-C and Na2CO3-added B2O3-C mixtures to N2 (g) atmosphere. Na2CO3 amount in the mixtures was changed in the range of 0-40 wt. %. Time and temperature were used as experimental variables. Reaction products were analyzed by XRD and scanning electron microscope. Na2CO3 was found to increase both the amount and the particle size of h-BN similar to CaCO3 [1]. Na2CO3 was found to be less effect...
Effect of kaolin addition on alkali capture capability during combustion of olive residue
Batır, Özge; Selçuk, Nevin; Külah, Görkem (2019-01-02)
The effect of kaolin addition on the combustion characteristics of olive residue was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) combined with Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer in parallel with ash characteristics were studied by X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyzer. The experiments were carried out by burning olive residue with 2%, 4% and 8% by wt. kaolin at 900 degrees C. Results indicate that the addition of kaolin led to a decrease in the rate of weight loss du...
