Pedestrian self-reports of factors influencing the use of pedestrian bridges
Rasanen, Mikko; Lajunen, Timo; Alticafarbay, Farahnaz; Aydin, Cumhur (2007-09-01)
The study was designed to find out factors that influence use/non-use of pedestrian bridges. The use rate of five pedestrian bridges was observed in the central business district (CBD) of Ankara. After the observations, a survey was conducted among pedestrians using those bridges and crossing contrary to safe practice under them at street level (n = 408). In the present data, the use rate of pedestrian bridges varied from 6 to 63%. The frequent use of the bridge when crossing the road concerned, and seeing ...
Road users’ evaluations and perceptions of road infrastructure, trip characteristics, and daily trip experiences across countries

Governments in every country have made attempts to encourage road safety, and road users’ perceptions of these attempts are crucial to understanding community needs and the effectiveness of road safety initiatives. However, while many studies compare countries with respect to fatality rates or possible causative factors related to these fatalities, little is known about how road users in different countries evaluate and perceive their tangible road environments from their own points of view. Therefore, the ...
Roadesic Distance: Flow-Aware Tracklet Association Cost for Wide Area Surveillance
Gürbüz, Yeti Ziya; Alatan, Abdullah Aydın (2017-09-20)
Long-term multi-target tracking via tracklet merging in wide area surveillance has crucial importance to improve tracker performances and operational requirements. Min-cost network flow formulation for multi-target tracking is adopted for the tracklet merging problem. In order to improve the continuity of the computed flows by the min-cost network flow framework, a novel tracklet association cost is proposed to be utilized in this network. The proposed cost is based on connecting two tracklets by considerin...

Seismic vulnerability, behavior and design of tunnel form building structures
Balkaya, C; Kalkan, E (Elsevier BV, 2004-12-01)
Multi-story reinforced concrete tunnel form buildings are one of the common structural types in regions prone to high seismic risk due to the buildings inherent earthquake resistance and ease of construction. Despite their good performance during earthquakes in 1999 in Turkey, and abundance of such structures scattered worldwide, current seismic codes and design provisions provide insufficient guidelines for their seismic design. As a compensatory measure, a series of modal and nonlinear static analyses are...
