Correlations between the resonant frequency shifts and the thermodynamic quantities for the alpha-beta transition in quartz
Lider, M. C.; Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2018-05-05)
The resonant frequency shifts are related to the thermodynamic quantities (compressibility, order parameter and susceptibility) for the alpha-beta transition in quartz. The experimental data for the resonant frequencies and the bulk modulus from the literature are used for those correlations. By calculating the order parameter from the mean field theory, correlation between the resonant frequencies of various modes and the order parameter is examined according to the quasi-harmonic phonon theory for the alp...
Correlations between the spectroscopic parameters and the thermodynamic quantities for systems exhibiting phase transitions
Karaçalı, Hüseyin; Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit; Department of Physics (2005)
We correlate in the first part of this study the specific heat and thermal expansivity to the temperature-and pressure-dependent frequency shifts, respectively, in ammonia solid I, solid II, hexagonal ice and ice close to their melting points. This is carried out for some fixed pressures for the two translational and one librational modes in ammonia solid I. By obtaining linear plots of specific heat and thermal expansivity against temperature-and pressure-dependent frequency shifts, the values of slope wer...
Correlations between Raman frequency shifts and the thermodynamic quantities close to the melting point in D2O ice
Karacali, H; Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (Wiley, 2005-11-01)
The Raman frequency shifts (1/v) (partial derivative v/partial derivative T)(T) and (1/v) (partial derivative v/partial derivative P)(T) of the translational mode are correlated to the specific heat C-p and to the thermal expansivity alpha(p), respectively, in D2O ice. Close to the melting point, they correlate linearly, from which the values of the slope dP/dT have been deduced in D2O ice. Our calculated values of dP/dT are in very good agreement with the experimentally obtained value in this crystalline s...
Correlations of the thermodynamic quantities with the frequency shifts of a lattice mode close to the I-II transition in NH4Br
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (Elsevier BV, 2010-06-01)
We correlate here the specific heat C-p with the frequency shifts (1/V) (partial derivative V/partial derivative T) and the thermal expansivity alpha(p) with the (1/v) (partial derivative V/partial derivative P)(T) close to the I-II transition in NH4Br. This correlation is performed for the Raman mode of vs (140 cm(-1)) using the molar volume data for NH4Br. It is shown here that spectroscopic modifications of the Pippard relations are applied satisfactorily to the I-II phase transition by using a lattice m...
Correlations between the energetics of ZnCd nanoparticles and some of their corresponding bulk properties: molecular-dynamics simulations
Amirouche, Lynda; Erkoç, Şakir (Elsevier BV, 2005-02-15)
The structural stability of Zn-50, Cd-50, Zn25Cd25, Zn12Cd38, and Zn38Cd12 nanoparticles has been investigated by performing molecular-dynamics computer simulations using a recently developed empirical many-body potential energy function. The most stable structures were found to be compact and three dimensional for both elemental and mixed clusters. An interesting structural feature of the mixed clusters is that Zn and Cd atoms do not mix, especially at proportions around the corresponding alloy eutectic co...
