DEVELOPING URBAN DESIGN INPUTS TO ENHANCE THE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE GREEN AREAS IN CITIES FROM ECOSYSTEM SERVICES PERSPECTIVE: THE CASE OF ÇANKAYA DISTRICT IN ANKARA
arslantaş, fethiye; Akkar Ercan, Zübeyde Müge; Zeydanlı, Uğur Siyami; Department of City and Regional Planning (2021-9-10)
The quality of urban environments and the health of citizens have an essential connection with urban green areas through ecosystem services (ES). However, the rapid urbanization in cities has threatened ES provision and causes a series of social and environmental challenges. ES concept is a tool that represents a comprehensive understanding of these challenges and that promotes developing planning strategies towards more liveable, sustainable, and resilient cities. To that end, this thesis aims to investiga...
Developing Systems Thinking Skills of Pre Service Science Teachers for becoming ESD Educators An attempt from Turkey
Gulız, Karaarslan; Teksöz, Gaye (null; 2015-06-29)
Newtonian-Cartesian science separates feeling from knowledge, mind or body and from its ecological and emotional context (Orr, 2004, p.31). This positivist view of science deals with the truths about the universe and science education (SE) plays a role to transmit these truths (Littledyke & Manolas, 2010). On the other hand, ESD incorporates a transformative holistic way of understanding and practice (UNECE, 2011) and in the 21st century SE holds a crucial purpose to help students make critical judgements a...
Developing teacher learning progressions for K-12 engineering education: teachers’ attitudes and their understanding of the engineering design
Mesutoğlu, Canan; Baran Jovanovic, Evrim; Department of Educational Sciences (2017)
Teachers at the K-12 level have a critical role in including engineering in their instruction. More teachers who are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to teach science using the engineering design process are needed. Aiming to build tools to measure and track the progress in teacher’ attitudes and their understanding of the engineering design process suggested the use of learning progressions approach. The purpose of the study was to develop two teacher learning progressions for K-12 engineer...
Developing prospective mathematics teachers’ knowledge for teaching quadrilaterals through a video case-based learning environment
Ulusoy, Fadime; Çakıroğlu, Erdinç; Department of Elementary Education (2016)
The aim of this study was to examine the developments in prospective middle school mathematics teachers’ subject matter knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge about quadrilaterals as they attended to a teaching experiment that was designed in a video case-based learning environment. Data was collected from eight prospective teachers during the fall semester of 2014-2015 in the scope of an elective course. In data collection process, multiple data sources were utilized such as clinical individual pre- a...
Developing a model to increase quality of DEM
Paşaoğulları, Onur; Usul, Nurünnisa; Department of Geodetic and Geographical Information Technologies (2013)
Low resolution (LR) Grid Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) are the inputs of multi frame super resolution (MFSR) algorithm to obtain high resolution (HR) grid DEM. In digital image MFSR, non-redundant information carrying LR image pairs are a necessity. By using the analogy between digital image and grid DEMs, it is proven that, although the LR grid DEMs have a single source, they carry non-redundant information and they can be inputs of MFSR. Quality of grid DEM can be increased by using MFSR techniques. The...
