The concentrations of organic carbon (OC), elementel carbon (EC) and secondary organic aerosol (SOA) in atmospheric particles were investigated at two sites in Ankara, Turkey. The results show that, mean values of EC, OC, SOA for urban station are 2.30, 10.44 and 13.59 μg/m3 respectively; the mean values of EC, OC, SOA for the suburban station were recorded as 0.85, 5.40 and 7.49 μg/m3 respectively. The summer and winter values of the EC concentration in the urban station were found to be 2.17, 2.48 μg/m3 ,...

Determination of heavy metal concentration in feed and permeate streams of polymer enhanced ultrafiltration process
Muslehiddinoglu, J; Uludağ, Yusuf; Ozbelge, HO; Yılmaz, Levent (1998-08-01)
Polymer enhanced ultrafiltration (PEUF) is a newly developed method for the removal of heavy metals from aqueous solutions. This method was applied for the removal of mercury and cadmium with the presence of polyethyleneimine (PEI) as a water soluble polymer. After ultrafiltration experiments for metal-polymer mixtures, two separate streams, namely, retentate and permeate, former of which contains mainly metal-polymer complex and free polymer molecules while latter of which mainly contains free metal ions, ...
Determination of groundwater threshold values: a methodology applied to Gediz basin
Bulut, Onur Fatih; Yetiş, Ülkü; Department of Environmental Engineering (2019)
Turkish bylaw on Protection of Groundwater against Pollution and Deterioration requires the establishment of groundwater thresholds in groundwater bodies. According to this regulation, water status, as good or not, is to be determined based on the chemical status. Indeed, in a EU Project entitled “Background Criteria for the Identification of Groundwater Thresholds-BRIDGE”, in an attempt to the implementation of Water Frame Directive, a methodological framework has been developed to determine threshold valu...
Determination of morphine and total phenolic content in poppy seed of Turkish origin
Gevenkiriş, Ali; Çoruh, Nursen; Department of Chemistry (2011)
Turkey is important major licid opium poppy (Papaver Somniferum) producer for medicinal and scientific purposes in the world and one of the two traditional producer country. The poppy seeds which are unique part of the opium poppy are used for food purpose. About 25.000 ton/year poppy seeds were produced for food purpose. Recent years morphine content of commercially available poppy seeds were speculated. Some studies have been reported that poppy seeds from different origins contain a wide variation of mor...
