Microstructure and nanomechanical behavior of sputtered CuNb thin films

We report on the mechanical properties of Cu–Nb alloys produced by combinatorial magnetron sputtering. Depending on the composition, the microstructure is either fully amorphous (~30–65 at.% Cu), a dispersion of Cu crystallites in an amorphous matrix (~70 at.%), or a dominant crystalline phase with separated nanoscale amorphous zones (~80 at.% Cu). Nanomechanical probing of the different microstructures reveals that the hardness of the fully amorphous alloy is much higher than a rule of mixture would predic...

Carbon nanoflake-manganese dioxide (CNF-MnO2) nanocomposite supercapacitor electrodes have been fabricated. While CNFs were synthesized via induction coupled plasma (ICP) using ethanol precursor, MnO2 was produced by a simple wet chemical method. Electrochemical properties of CNF-MnO2 nanocomposite electrodes were determined and compared to that of bare components. The CNF-MnO2 nanocomposite electrode showed a specific capacitance of 220.38 F/g at a current density of 0.1 A/g. The coulombic efficiency and t...
Nanostructured poly(lactic acid)/soy protein/HPMC films by electrospinning for potential applications in food industry

As an alternative to oil based materials, there is a demand for easily degradable packaging materials. With this regard, the objective of this study is to produce bilayer nanofiber sheets composed of Poly (lactic acid) (PLA) and soy protein, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) and combination of them by using electrospinning. In addition, it was aimed to analyze morphological, optical, thermal properties of films and investigate permeability characteristics. Homogenous nanofibers were successfully collecte...
