Implementing a Framework for Early Algebra
Blanton, Maria; Brizuela, Barbara M.; Stephens, Ana; Knuth, Eric; İşler Baykal, Işıl; Gardiner, Angela Murphy; Stroud, Rena; Fonger, Nicole L.; Stylianou, Despina (2018-01-01)
In this chapter, we discuss the algebra framework that guides our work and how this framework was enacted in the design of a curricular approach for systematically developing elementary-aged students' algebraic thinking. We provide evidence that, using this approach, students in elementary grades can engage in sophisticated practices of algebraic thinking based on generalizing, representing, justifying, and reasoning with mathematical structure and relationships. Moreover, they can engage in these practices...
Implementing KQML agent communication language for multiagent simulation architectures on HLA
Göktürk, Erek; Polat, Faruk; Department of Computer Engineering (2003)
Multiagent simulation is gaining popularity due to its intuitiveness and ability in coping with domain complexity. HLA, being a distributed simulation architecture standard, is a good candidate for implementing a multiagent simulation infrastructure on, provided that agent communication can be implemented. HLA, being a standard designed towards a wide coverage of simulation system architectures and styles, is not an easy system to master. In this thesis, an abstraction layer called the Federate Abstraction ...
Developing a Space Syntax-Based Evaluation Method for Procedurally Generated Game Levels
Bıyık, Emin Alp; Sürer, Elif (2020-12-01)
Procedural content generation (PCG) has been an essential catalyzer in the last decade with its efficiency in creating game elements such as textures, game levels, and maps. Despite being successfully applied in various studies, new reliable evaluation tools are still needed to assess the quality of the generated game content. One example limitation of procedurally generated game worlds is the lacking spatial configuration. To address this issue, in this study, an assessment method was developed to evaluate...
Implementing agent communication for a multi-agent simulation infrastructure on HLA
Gokturk, E; Polat, Faruk (2003-01-01)
Multi-agent simulation is gaining popularity due to its intuitiveness and ability in coping with domain complexity. HLA, being a distributed simulation architecture standard, is a good candidate for implementing a multi-agent simulation infrastructure on, provided that agent communication can be implemented. In this paper, we present a layered approach to the agent communication, followed by a discussion of implementing the lowest two layers of this approach using HLA and the agent communication language KQ...
Creating a MOOC portal for workplace learning
Eşfer, Sezin; Çağıltay, Kürşat (null, 2018-01-01)
This chapter is aboutBilgeİş, a European Union-funded project, which aims to build up a MOOC portal promoting the adaptability of employees and employers to new social and economic structures via information and communications technology (ICT) in Turkey. Specifically, the focus is on supporting small and medium enterprises’ (SMEs) professional development by creating 100 MOOCs based on digital workplace learning and informal learning. By observing and examining the processes, documents, and improvements rel...
