Evaluation of Hypersingular Integrals on Curvilinear Surface Elements
Selcuk, Gokhun; Koç, Seyit Sencer (2016-04-15)
In this study finite part integrals are utilized for evaluation of hypersingular and nearly-hypersingular surface integrals on curvilinear elements. These integrals are related to the second derivative of the free space Green' function and arise in the solution of electric field integral equation (EFIE) via locally corrected Nystriim (LCN) method. The curvilinear elements are represented by the Taylor series expansion of the surface function around the observation point. The hypersingular integral, defined ...
Evaluation of Hypersingular Integrals on Non-planar Surfaces
Selcuk, Gokhun; Koç, Seyit Sencer (2014-05-16)
Solving electric field integral equation (EFIE) with Nystrom method requires accurate evaluation of hypersingular surface integrals since this method does not use divergence conforming basis and testing functions. The success of the method also depends on accurate representation of non-planar characteristics of the scattering object. In this study Hadamard finite part interpretation is used to evaluate hypersingular integrals over non-planar surfaces, which are represented by their Taylor series expansions....
Evaluation of Method of Lines Solution of Discrete Ordinates Method and Finite Volume Method in a Planar Medium
Selçuk, N; Külah, Görkem; Tarhan, T (2009-04-01)
Predictive accuracy of the method-of-lines (MOL) solution of discrete ordinates method (DOM) for transient problems was examined by applying it to a 1D test problem and comparing its steady state solution with the analytical solution of DOM reported previously. Results were found to be in good agreement. Predictions of the MOL solution of DOM were then compared with those obtained by applying the finite volume method (FVM) to the same test problem. The results of both methods were benchmarked against the ex...
Evaluation of effective elastic properties of honeycomb sandwich structures by optimization involving modal behavior
Çınar, Okan; Erdal Erdoğmuş, Merve; Kayran, Altan; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2014)
This thesis aims to develop an alternative approach which estimates the effective elastic properties of 2D orthotropic equivalent model of the honeycomb core material. For this purpose, 3D detailed finite element (FE) model of honeycomb structure, with the actual cell geometry and the face sheets, is used as the reference structure. Effective elastic properties of the equivalent 2D orthotropic model, representing the honeycomb core, are determined by means optimization. The objective function of the optimiz...
Evaluation of approximate nonlinear procedures for observed response of a shear wall structure
Gulkan, Polat; Yakut, Ahmet; Kazaz, Ilker (2005-06-01)
This article presents an analytical study carried out to investigate seismic response of a lightly reinforced stiff shear wall structure subjected to ground motions classified as near- or far-field. A five-story lightly reinforced shear wall model structure that has been studied both experimentally and analytically in the context of a coordinated research project has been employed. Several response parameters were obtained by linear and nonlinear analyses under a suite of 55 ground motion records on firm so...
