Design and implementation of low power interface electronics for vibration-based electromagnetic energy harvesters
Rahimi, Arian; Külah, Haluk; Muhtaroğlu, Ali; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2011)
For many years batteries have been used as the main power sources for portable electronic devices. However, the rate of scaling in integrated circuits and micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) has been much higher than that of the batteries technology. Therefore, a need to replace these temporary energy reservoirs with small sized continuously charged energy supply units has emerged. These units, named as energy harvesters, use several types of ambient energy sources such as heat, light, and vibration to ...
Design and Analysis of Nanoantenna Arrays for Imaging and Sensing Applications at Optical Frequencies
Isiklar, Goktug; Cetin, Isa Can; Algun, Mustafa; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2019-01-01)
We present computational analysis of nanoantenna arrays for imaging and sensing applications at optical frequencies. Arrays of metallic nanoantennas are considered in an accurate simulation environment based on surface integral equations and the multilevel fast multipole algorithm developed for plasmonic structures. Near-zone responses of the designed arrays to nearby nanoparticles are investigated in detail to demonstrate the feasibility of detection. We show that both metallic and dielectric nanoparticles...

Design and performance of a hybrid fast and thermal neutron detector
Singh, M. K.; Sonay, A.; DENİZ, MUHAMMED; Agartioglu, M.; Asryan, G.; Kumar, G. Kiran; Li, H. B.; Li, J.; Lin, F. K.; Lin, S. T.; Sharma, V.; Singh, L.; Singh, V.; Subrahmanyam, V. S.; Soma, A. K.; Wong, H. T.; Yang, S. W.; Yildirim, I. O.; Yue, Q.; Zeyrek, Mehmet Tevfik (2017-10-01)
We report the characterization, calibration and performance of a custom-built hybrid detector consisting of BC501A liquid scintillator and BC702 scintillator for the detection of fast and thermal neutrons, respectively. Pulse Shape Discrimination techniques are developed to distinguish events due to gamma-rays, fast and thermal neutrons. Software analysis packages are developed to derive raw neutron energy spectra from measured proton recoil spectra. The validity is demonstrated through the reconstruction o...
Design and implementation of a voltage source converter based hybrid active power filter
Uçak, Onur; Ermiş, Muammer; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2009)
This research work is devoted to the analysis, design and implementation of a shunt connected Hybrid Active Power Filter by the use of a lower rated voltage source PWM converter, and a series connected LC passive filter. In recent years, voltage and current harmonics have become a serious problem both in transmission and distribution systems, due to the widespread usage of non-linear loads such as diode/thyristor rectifiers, electric arc furnaces and motor drives. In order to obtain a better performance tha...
