This study compare the fluoride release profiles of two glass ionomer cements (GICs) and three resin-modified glass ionomer cements (RMGICs) by using statistical modeling. Commercial disc specimens were prepared using a cylindrical teflon mold and placed into organic acid buffer solutions (AAB: Acetic Acid Buffer; CAB:Citric Acid Buffer and LAB: Lactic Acid Buffer) with a costant pH value of 4.1. Fluoride release was measured using a fluoride-ion spesific electrode at different time intervals up to 168 hours. Then, data obtained non-cumulatively were statistically analyzed, and the fluoride released profiles were compared. The highest fluoride release was obtained from the RMGIC (PhotacFil Quick) in AAB, CAB and LAB solutions. This was followed by RMGIC (Vitremer) and GICs (Ketac Cem, Fuji Plus and Aqua Cem) in all solutions, respectively. Fluoride release profiles of materials KTC, FP and AC (Group 1) have completely different characteristics to that of the materials PFQ and V (Group 2). Therefore, two separate linear regression model development studies are attempted to for Group 1 and Group 2 materials. Fluoride release patterns of Group 2 materials (PFQ and V) do not all have similar characteristic at all solutions. To illustrate, the fluoride release profile of PFQ in AAB and LAB, and that of V in AAB and LAB are similar, and can be modeled by using even simple linear regression. Although there are some similarities, fluoride release profiles of Group 1 materials in different solutions are significantly different from each other. The development of statistical models for fluoride release can be supportive alternatives to compare the fluoride release behavior of dental materials and also be helpful in understanding and eliminating the factors which are responsible for the formation of fluoride release amounts for the production of new generation materials.

Production and characterization of boron carbide powder by mechanochemical method
Büyüklüoğlu, Berkay; Sargın, Irmak; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2023-1-27)
In this study, the production of boron carbide (B4C) powders at room temperature by mechanochemical alloying is investigated. The conventional production methods of this industrially important material requires high energy consumption, whereas the low energy production methods could only produce small amounts. By optimizing the mechanochemical alloying, the know-how for the larger scale production is developed. The mechanochemical method consists of mechanical grinding and acid leaching to remove by-p...
Preparation of BaxSr1-xTiO3 thin films by chemical solution deposition and their electrical characterization
Adem, Umut; Özenbaş, Ahmet Macit; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2003)
In this study, barium strontium titanate (BST) thin films with different compositions (Ba0.9Sr0.1TiO3, Ba0.8Sr0.2TiO3, Ba0.7Sr0.3TiO3, Ba0.5Sr0.5TiO3) were produced by chemical solution deposition technique. BST solutions were prepared by dissolving barium acetate, strontium acetate and titanium isopropoxide in acetic acid and adding ethylene glycol as a chelating agent and stabilizer to this solution, at molar ratio of acetic acid/ethylene glycol, 3:1. The solution was then coated on Si and Pt//Ti/SiO2/Si ...
Use of boron oxide and boric acid to improve flame retardancy of an organophosphorus compound in neat and fiber reinforced polyamide-6
POLAT, Osman; Kaynak, Cevdet (2016-09-01)
The aim of this study was to investigate the usability of boron oxide and boric acid to enhance flame retardancy of (aluminum diethyl phosphinate)-type organophosphorus compound in polyamide-6 and its 15 wt% of short (glass fiber)-reinforced composite. Materials were compounded by melt-mixing method via a twin-screw extruder, and the specimens for testing and analyses were shaped by injection and compression-molding. For the neat polyamide-6 specimens, mass loss cone calorimetry analyses indicated that repl...

Gullu, H. H.; Surucu, O. Bayrakli; Terlemezoğlu, Makbule; Yildiz, D. E.; Parlak, Mehmet (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2019-08-01)
In this study, temperature-dependent current-voltage (I-V), frequency-dependent capacitance-voltage (C-V) and conductance-voltage (G/omega-V) measurements are carried out for the electrical characterization of a zinc oxide (ZnO) thin film-based diode. The sandwich structure in the form of Ag/ZnO/Si/Al is investigated at temperatures between 220 and 360 K and in the frequency region of 1 kHz-1 MHz. ZnO thin film layer is deposited on a p-Si wafer substrate as a transparent conductive oxide layer by taking in...
Characterization of maghemite thin films prepared by sol-gel processing
Karakuşçu, Aylin; Özenbaş, Ahmet Macit; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2006)
In this study, maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) thin films were prepared by chemical solution deposition on glass and quartz substrates. The solution was prepared by using 0.3 M iron (III) nitrate [Fe(NO3)3 - 9H2O] as precursor and dissolved in a mixture of 2-methoxyethanol and acetylacetone in a molar ratio of 20:2, by stirring the solution at RT for 2 hours. Substrates were prepared by either piranha etching method or ultrasonic cleaning method. The solution was spin coated on glass and quartz substrates at 1400 and 4...
