A Microbolometer detector based on a sol-gel technology
Dervişoğlu, Özgecan; Akın, Tayfun; Durucan, Caner; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2013)
The objective of this study is to develop a high performance bolometric material for microbolometers. The bolometric material to be developed was chosen as vanadium oxide due to its high temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR), low 1/f noise performance, and read out integrated circuit (ROIC) compatible resistivity. Among various deposition techniques, sol-gel method was decided to be implemented because of its various advantages such as simpler instrumentation, attainability of good chemical homogeneit...
A monolithic phased array using rf mems technology
Topallı, Kağan; Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2007)
This thesis presents a novel monolithic phased array implemented using the RF MEMS technology. The structure, which is designed at 15 GHz, consists of four linearly placed microstrip patch antennas, 3-bit distributed RF MEMS low-loss phase shifters, and a corporate feed network. The RF MEMS phase shifter employed in the system consists of three sections with a total of 28 unit cells, and it occupies an area of 22.4 mm 2.1 mm. The performance of the phase shifters is improved using high-Q metal-air-metal ca...
A high-performance silicon-on-insulator MEMS gyroscope operating at atmospheric pressure
Alper, Said Emre; Azgın, Kıvanç; Akın, Tayfun (Elsevier BV, 2007-03-30)
This paper presents a new, high-performance silicon-on-insulator (SOI) MEMS gyroscope with decoupled oscillation modes. The gyroscope structure allows it to achieve matched-resonance-frequencies, large drive-mode oscillation amplitude, high sense-mode quality factor, and low mechanical cross-talk. The gyroscope is fabricated through the commercially available SOIMUMPS process of MEMSCAP Inc. The fabricated gyroscope has minimum capacitive sense gaps of 2.6 mu m and a structural silicon thickness of 25 mu m,...
A low cost uncooled infrared microbolometer focal plane array using the CMOS n-well layer
Tezcan, DS; Eminoglu, S; Akar, OS; Akın, Tayfun (2001-01-25)
This paper reports a low-cost, 256-pixel uncooled infrared microbolometer focal plane array (FPA) implemented using a 0.8 mum CMOS process where the n-well layer is used as the active microbolometer material. The suspended n-well structure is obtained by simple front-end bulk etching of the fabricated CMOS dies, while the n-well region is protected from etching by electrochemical etch-stop technique within a TMAH solution. Electrical connections to the suspended n-well are obtained with polysilicon intercon...
A Dual-Band HgCdTe nBn Infrared Detector Design
Uzgur, Fatih; Kocaman, Serdar (2019-01-01)
Low dark current and/or high operating temperature are the main motivations behind the nBn detector structures where removing the valence band discontinuity is usually an important design challenge. With the utilization of the bias polarity, these structures can also be easily designed as dual-band detectors and in this study, a dual-band (MWIR / LWIR) HgCdTe nBn detector configuration has been numerically examined. Valence band barrier suppression has been obtained with the delta-doped and compositional gr...
